THE USHJA FOUNDATION ADVANCES THE EDUCATIONAL, HUMANITARIAN AND COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS OF THE USHJA.

SUPPORT OF USHJA PROGRAMS - THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR VARIOUS UNITED STATES HUNTER JUMPER ASSOCIATION, INC.'S PROGRAMS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE HORSEMANSHIP QUIZ CHALLENGE, THE WHEELER MUSEUM, HORSEMANSHIP CLINICS, AND OTHER USHJA AWARDS PROGRAMS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO ACTS AS THE CHARITABLE ARM OF THE ASSOCIATION, AND RAISES FUNDS TO SUPPORT USHJA PROGRAMS. IN FY 21, THE FOUNDATION RAISED FUNDS FOR THE FOLLOWING ASSOCIATION PROGRAMS, THE WORLD CHAMPION HUNTER RIDER PROGRAM, SALLIE B WHEELER HUNTER BREEDING CHAMPIONSHIPS, THE EMERGING JUMPER RIDER PROGRAM, YOUNG HUNTER PONY CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND THE USEF YOUTH SPORTSMAN AWARD.


SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS, & CONTRIBUTIONS - THE USHJA FOUNDATION HAS MULTIPLE SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS AVAILABLE TO USHJA MEMBERS ANNUALLY. THE HAMEL SCHOLARSHIP FOR FURTHER EDUCATION IS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE FURTHER EDUCATION AMONG EQUESTRIANS AND WILL AWARD UP TO 25K TO ONE USHJA MEMBER FOR COLLEGE, GRADUATE, TRADE OR PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL. THE GOCHMAN FAMILY GRANT FOR THE US PONY FINALS OFFERS UP TO THREE ANNUAL GRANTS TO YOUNG RIDERS TO AFFORD THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE IN THE US PONY FINALS. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, US PONY FINALS WERE CANCELED IN 2020. IN TURN, RECIPIENTS WERE SELECTED, AND PARTICIPATED IN THE 2021 US PONY FINALS ALONG WITH THE 2021 RECIPIENTS OF THE GOCHMAN FAMILY GRANT FOR US PONY FINALS. ZONE SCHOLARSHIPS - FUNDS ARE RAISED BY MEMBERS OF REGIONAL ZONES AND AWARDED AS EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO ZONE MEMBERS. THE JT TALLON MEMORIAL EQUITATION GRANT IS AWARDED TO JUNIOR USHJA MEMBERS WITH LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES WHO HAVE QUALIFIED FOR A NATIONAL EQUITATION FINAL ARE PROVIDED THE SUPPORT THEY NEED TO ATTEND. THE ALVIN TOPPING GOVERNANCE GRANT IS AWARDED ANNUALLY TO ASSIST ONE USHJA MEMBER, (25 YEARS OF AGE OR UNDER) WITH FUNDING TO SUPPORT THEIR ATTENDANCE AT THE USHJA OR USEF ANNUAL MEETING. THE EQUESTRIAN HELMET SAFETY INITIATIVE IS DEDICATED TO RESEARCH THAT WILL ELEVATE THE STUDY OF HEAD IMPACT AND CONCUSSION RISK IN AN EQUESTRIAN ENVIRONMENT TO A NEW STANDARD. THE FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTES MONIES FOR THE RESEARCH WHICH WILL BE CONDUCTED IN LAB SETTINGS AND FIELD VIDEO DATA ON A VARIETY OF EQUESTRIAN EVENTS WITH SIGNIFICANT ATTENTION TO JUMPING, WHERE MANY INJURIES OCCUR. THIS PROJECT WILL SET THE FRAMEWORK TO BETTER UNDERSTAND CONCUSSIVE BIOMECHANICS IN THE EQUESTRIAN INDUSTRY AND BETTER INFORM HELMET MANUFACTURERS FOR IMPROVEMENT WITH ENVIRONMENT-SPECIFIC DESIGN.


HORSEMAN ASSISTANCE GRANTS -THE HORSEMAN'S ASSISTANCE FUND WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO INDIVIDUALS, HORSES, OR ORGANIZATIONS THAT REQUIRE ASSISTANCE AS A RESULT OF ILLNESS, INJURY AND/OR OTHERWISE INCAPACITATED DUE TO A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT OR NATURAL DISASTER. IN FY2020, WHEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT THE UNITED STATES, AND CONTINUING INTO FY2021, THE FOUNDATION INITIATED THE USHJA FEED AID INITIATIVE THAT PROVIDED AID IN PURCHASING FEED FOR LESSON HORSES AS SHORT-TERM RELIEF FOR THE BUSINESSES IN THE HUNTER/JUMPER COMMUNITY WHO PROVIDE LESSONS TO NON- BOARDERS AND WERE SUFFERING FINANCIALLY DUE TO THE IMPACT OF COVID-19.


HISTORICAL PRESERVATION - THE FOUNDATION RAISES FUNDS TO AID THE USHJA'S WHEELER MUSEUM THAT AIMS TO COLLECT, PRESERVE AND SHARE THE HISTORY OF THE HUNTER/JUMPER SPORT. ITS PURPOSE IS ONE OF BOTH PRESERVATION AND EDUCATION FOR THOSE WITHIN THE HUNTER/JUMPER COMMUNITY AS WELL AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC. TO ASSIST THE USHJA AND THE WHEELER MUSEUM, THE FOUNDATION ASSISTS WITH ONLINE VIDEO ARCHIVING, NEW EXHIBITS, AND PRESERVATION OF HISTORICAL ARTIFACTS.
