STUDENT PROGRAMS - IN FY23, 826DC SERVED 1,964 STUDENTS THROUGH ITS LITERACY-FOCUSED PROGRAM, EACH DESIGNATED TO CULTIVATE WRITING SKILLS AND PROVIDE PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR DC STUDENTS. OUR CORE PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE YOUNG AUTHORS' BOOK PROJECT, FIELD TRIPS, IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AFTER-SCHOOL WRITING LAB, WORKSHOPS, AND READING ALL STARS. IN ADDITION TO DEVELOPING AND EXECUTING ORIGINAL CURRICULA, 826DC PUBLISHED STUDENT WORK, INCLUDING THE ANTHOLOGY "LOOKING TO THE SKY".
PUBLIC PROGRAMS - A SMALL COMPONENT OF 826DC'S WORK IS OUR PUBLIC LITERARY PROGRAMMING INCLUDING THE LOWERCASE SERIES, A MONTHLY OPEN MIC NIGHT FOR THE DC LITERARY COMMUNITY. 826DC STAFF USES THIS AND OTHER PUBLIC-FACING EVENT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO RECRUIT NEW PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS, SHARE OUR STUDENTS' WORKS WITH THE BROADER PUBLIC, AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT BOOK RELEASES AND PROGRAMMING EVENTS.
