DISTANCE LEARNING CONTINUING EDUCATION ACTIVITIES - WESTERN ILLINOIS AHEC OFFERS CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMMING TO HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS IN RURAL ILLINOIS THROUGH VIDEO CONFERENCE AND WEB CONNECTION CAPABILITIES BY OFFERING PROGRAMMING THROUGH VIDEO AND WEB BASED CAPABILITIES, WE ARE ABLE TO LINK RURAL ILLINOIS HOSPITALS AND PROVIDERS WITH A VARIETY OF CLINICAL, MANAGEMENT AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES. DISTANCE LEARNING IS A BENEFIT TO RURAL PROVIDERS BECAUSE IT ALLOWS THEM TO STAY CURRENT ON NEW ISSUES AND ALLOWS THEM TO INTERACT WITH COLLEAGUES IN TURN, RURAL HOSPITALS ARE ABLE TO SAVE TIME AND MONEY SINCE THERE ARE NO TRAVEL COSTS AND THE SESSIONS COME DIRECTLY TO THE RURAL SITE. PROGRAMMING INCLUDES PATIENT SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMMING, MID-LEVEL MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT, INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM BUILDING, CHRONIC DISEASE - HEART, LUNGS, DIABETES.
