REACHOUT.COMREACHOUT.COM IS REACHOUT USAS PRIMARY ONLINE PLATFORM AND AVENUE OF OUTREACH. THE SERVICE HELPS AMERICAN TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS GET THROUGH TOUGH TIMES BY IMPROVING THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, DEVELOPING RESILIENCE, BUILDING THEIR COPING SKILLS AND INCREASING HELP-SEEKING BEHAVIOR. THE ONLINE PLATFORM PROVIDES EVIDENCE-BASED INFORMATION, SUPPORTS REAL LIFE STORIES, AND PROVIDES THE ABILITY FOR YOUTH TO CONNECT AND CONTRIBUTE IN A SAFE AND SUPPORTED COMMUNITY. REACHOUT.COM IS A CRITICAL EARLY INTERVENTION TO PREVENT SMALL PROBLEMS FROM BECOMING BIG ONES.
OHA-LINES FOR LIFEIN COLLABORATION WITH THE OREGON HEALTH AUTHORITY, LINES FOR LIFE, YOUTH M.O.V.E. OREGON AND OSU CASCADES, DURING 2016 REACHOUT USA DEVELOPED A STRATEGIC PLAN FOR LEVERAGING TECHNOLOGY TO END YOUTH SUICIDE IN OREGON AS PART OF THE LARGER OREGON YOUTH SUICIDE PREVENTION PLAN. THIS COLLABORATION, DUBBED SHIFT, MET MONTHLY TO CRAFT A PLAN THAT WAS DRIVEN BY A YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL. REACHOUT MANAGED AND FACILITATED THE PLAN DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AS WELL AS HOSTED THREE FOCUS GROUPS OF HIGH-SCHOOL AGED YOUTH ACROSS THE STATE OF OREGON TO INFORM THE PLAN. THE SHIFT INITIATIVE SEEKS TO LEVERAGE THE TECHNOLOGY PREFERENCES OF YOUNG PEOPLE TO CONNECT THEM TO RESOURCES AND SAVE LIVES. BY HARNESSING THE TECH-SAVVY OF THE THREE COLLABORATING ORGANIZATIONS, LINES FOR LIFE, YOUTH M.O.V.E. OREGON AND REACHOUT USA, THE SHIFT COLLABORATIVE AIMS TO REDUCE TWO SOCIO-CULTURAL SUICIDE RISK FACTORS: (1) LACK OF SOCIAL SUPPORT AND SENSE OF ISOLATION, AND (2) STIGMA ASSOCIATED WITH HELP SEEKING; AND TO INCREASE TWO PROTECTIVE FACTORS: (1) SOCIAL CONNECTIVITY AND (2) HELP- SEEKING BEHAVIOR. THE STRATEGIC PLAN WAS PRESENTED TO THE OREGON SUICIDE PREVENTION ALLIANCE IN 2016.
