THE TEXAS ORAL HEALTH COALITION, INC. (TXOHC) IS A STATEWIDE NONPARTISAN 501(C)(3) NONPROFIT WHOSE OVERALL GOAL IS TO ENCOURAGE COLLABORATION TO FOSTER WHOLE PERSON HEALTH, ELIMINATE ORAL DISPARITIES AND ADDRESS HEALTH INEQUALITIES FOR ALL TEXANS. COALITION MEMBERS WORK TO IMPROVE ORAL HEALTH AWARENESS BY CHANGING PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ORAL HEALTH AND OVERALL HEALTH SO THAT ORAL HEALTH BECOMES AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT OF HEALTH POLICIES AND PROGRAMS BY INFORMING, EDUCATING, AND EMPOWERING COMMUNITY PARTNERS, PUBLIC OFFICIALS, POLICYMAKERS, AND THE PUBLIC.

THE FLUORIDE FOR SMILES (FORMERLY KNOWN AS FLUORIDE FOR TEXAS) CAMPAIGN PROJECT APPLIED A DATA-DRIVEN, EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGY FOR UNDERSTANDING EXISTING ANTI-FLUORIDATION BELIEFS IN TEXAS AND DEVELOPED A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN TO GARNER SUPPORT FOR COMMUNITY WATER FLUORIDATION (CWF). MESSAGES IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH FOCUS ON ORAL HEALTH AND ORAL HEALTH EQUITY. A SERIES OF TOOLKITS WERE ALSO CREATED TO HELP HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS TO DISCUSS CWF WITH THEIR PATIENTS, A TOOLKIT FOR CWF ADVOCATES AND A CURRICULUM RESOURCE GUIDE FOR HEALTHCARE FACULTY. TXOHC CREATED A SPECIALLY DESIGNED WEBSITE (HTTPS://FLUORIDEFORSMILES.ORG) WHERE TOOLKITS, SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL WEBINARS, AND SOCIAL MEDIA MESSAGES ARE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC FREE OF CHARGE.


THE COALITION CO-HOSTS THE ANNUAL TEXAS ORAL HEALTH CONFERENCE. REALIZING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR COLLECTIVE IMPACT, TXOHC COLLABORATES AND POOLS RESOURCES WITH THE TEXAS HEALTH INSTITUTE TO CREATE A UNIFIED AND MEANINGFUL ANNUAL CONFERENCE. CONTINUING EDUCATION WAS PROVIDED FOR 153 INDIVIDUALS DURING THE 2022 CONFERENCE.


THE PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE - TXOHC PROVIDES CONTINUING DENTAL EDUCATION FOR LIVE IN-PERSON OR VIRTUAL EVENTS AS WELL AS SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL WEBINARS VIA COLLABORATIONS WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. IN 2022, 690 HEALTH PROFESSIONALS ATTENDED OUR EDUCATIONAL EVENTS AND TXOHC PROVIDED 41.25 CONTINUING DENTAL EDUCATION HOURS TO 283 DENTAL PROFESSIONALS COMPLETING THE EVALUATION.
