THE YWCA OF WESTMORELAND COUNTY IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING RACISM, EMPOWERING WOMEN, AND PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM AND DIGNITY FOR ALL.

THE YWCA OFFERS PROGRAMS IN TECHNOLOGY, LITERACY, AND CHILD CARE. COMPUTER CLASSES ARE OFFERED TO HELP WOMEN PREPARE FOR THE WORKFORCE OR TO IMPROVE WORK-RELATED SKILLS. THE YWCA SPONSORS TECHGIRLS PROGRAMS AT SEVERAL LOCAL SCHOOLS TO ALLOW GIRLS TO LEARN ABOUT ROBOTICS AND ENCOURAGE THE PURSUIT OF STEM CAREERS. THE YWCA LITERACY PROGRAM ASSISTS NON-READING ADULTS TO LEARN READING SKILLS AND PROVIDES CLASSES IN ESL TO INDIVIDUALS WITH FIRST LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH. THESE PROGRAMS GIVE ADULTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES, SKILLS NEEDED TO BE EFFECTIVE IN THEIR ROLES AS MEMBERS OF THEIR FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES, AND WORKPLACES. THE YWCA ALSO PROVIDES EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CHILDCARE THROUGH A FUN, SAFE, AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT EMPHASIZES SCHOOL READINESS.


THE YWCA OPERATES A THRIFT SHOP IN ORDER TO PROVIDE QUALITY AND AFFORDABLE CLOTHING. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN TO STRETCH THEIR LIMITED DOLLARS TO CLOTHE THEIR FAMILIES. IN CONJUCTION WITH THE THRIFT SHOP, THE PA WORKWEAR AND WORKING WOMENS CLOSET PROGRAMS HELP WOMEN PREPARE FOR JOB INTERVIEWS, GIVING THEM INTERVIEW CLOTHING AND OTHER WORK CLOTHES AT NO COST.
