Part 3

LISCA FULFILLED ITS MISSION BY OFFERING LONG ISLAND AUDIENCES TWO PROGRAMS OF MAJOR CLASSICAL MUSIC NOT FREQUENTLY HEARD HERE BECAUSE OF THE DIFFICULTY AND CHALLENGE OF THE WORK. 1. LISCA PRESENTED BACH'S "CHRISTMAS ORATORIO" ON DECEMBER 13, 2014, AT ST. JAMES CHURCH, SETAUKET, NY 11733. JOINED BY A 24-PLAYER ORCHESTRA AND 4 SOLOISTS. THIS WORK IS CONSIDERED BY MANY TO BE AMONG BACH'S FINEST WORKS, AND ALTHOUGH INTRICATE AND CHALLENGING FOR BOTH CHORUS AND ORCHESTRA, IT IS SATISFYING FOR AUDIENCE AND PERFORMERS ALIKE. A HIGHLY ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCE OF ABOUT 300 ENJOYED THE PERFORMANCE. A GRANT OF $5,000 ($833.33 RECEIVED PRIOR TO THE 2014-15 FISCAL YEAR) HELPED SUPPORT OUR DEC. BACH CONCERT EXPENSES. 2. ON MAY 16, 2015, LISCA, JOINED BY THE CHOIR OF ST. PETER'S LUTHERAN CHURCH IN NEW YORK CITY, SANG A CAPELLA AND IN RUSSIAN, THE GREAT "ALL-NIGHT VIGIL" BY SERGEI RACHMANINOFF AT ST. JAMES CHURCH IN SETAUKET. THE VIGIL, OFTEN CALLED THE RACHMANINOFF "VESPERS", HAS BEEN WIDELY PRAISED AS RACHMANINOFF'S GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT. OUR AUDIENCE, OF NEARLY 300 PEOPLE, FOLLOWED THE PERFORMANCE WITH RAPT ATTENTION AND GAVE US A LONG STANDING OVATION. A GRANT OF $1,050 FROM THE NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL OF THE ARTS, THROUGH THE DECENTRALIZATION PROGRAM, HELPED TO SUPPORT THE EXPENSES OF OUR MAY RACHMANINOFF CONCERT EXPENSES.
