Part 3 - Line 4a

THE VAST LEGACY OF CMSS FOUNDERS IS CELEBRATED THROUGH ITS MONTHLY CREATIVE IMPROVISERS ORCHESTER (CIO) PERFORMANCES. EACH CIO PERFORMANCE BRINGS TOGETHER 15-25 DIVERSE MUSICIANS WHO HAVE A ONE-HOUR OPEN REHEARSAL OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IN WHICH CONDUCTORS WORK WITH THE GROUP ON THEMES, MELODIES FROM THE WORLDS FOLK TRADITIONS, AND COMPOSITIONS WRITTEN BY LEGENDARY IMPROVISERS ASSOCIATED WITH CMS. FOLLOWING THE OPEN REHEARSAL THE ORCHESTRA PERFORMS FULLY REALIZED VERSIONS OF THE SAME COMPOSITIONS.

THE CMS IMPROVISERS ENSEMBLE (CIE) LIFTS UP DIVERSE UP-AND-COMING ARTISTS, GIVING THEM A CHANCE TO LEAD AND SHAPE THE FUTURE OF IMPROVISED MUSIC. CIE IS CURRENTLY CONDUCTED BY A QUEER AND TRANS BIPOC MULTI INSTRUMENTALIST, WHO SELECTS MUSICIANS OF SIMILARLY DIVERSE DEMOGRAPHICS TO PLAY IN CONCERT PROGRAMS PRESENTED NEW YORK CITY. AS A WAY OF FURTHER BRINGING ELDER AND YOUNGER GENERATIONS OF MUSICIANS TOGETHER IN A DYNAMIC MUSICAL EXCHANGE.

CMS WORKSHOPS OFFER EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO PROFESSIONAL AND AMATEUR MUSICIANS, ADULTS INTERESTED IN LIFELONG LEARNING, AND EVEN TO FANS OF THE MUSIC WHO DONT PLAY AN INSTRUMENT. EACH WORKSHOP TYPICALLY FEATURES A GUIDING ARTIST OR MULTIPLE GUIDING ARTISTS AND 18-25 PARTICIPANTS. CMS WORKSHOPS FOSTER ACTIVE LISTENING, PERSONAL EXPRESSION, IMPROVISATION AND MUSICAL EXPLORATION. THE NON-TRADITIONAL ATMOSPHERE OF A CMS WORKSHOP ENCOURAGES PARTICIPANTS TO EXPERIMENT, PUSH BEYOND LIMITS, GENRES AND CATEGORIES, AND TO TAKE RISKS. WORKSHOPS MAY BE AS SHORT AS A HALF DAY OR AS LONG AS THREE DAYS.
