PFP WORKS TO SUSTAIN VITAL AND DIVERSE LIVING CULTURAL HERITAGE IN COMMUNITIES IN OUR REGION THROUGH COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS, RESEARCH, DOCUMENTATION AND EDUCATION, PRIORITIZING FOLK AND TRADITIONAL ARTS IN SERVICE OF SOCIAL CHANGE.

PFP PROVIDES FOLKLIFE AND ARTS PROGRAMS TO DIVERSE COMMUNITIES IN PHILADELPHIA. IN FY23, WE CONTINUED THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAKING A HOMEPLACE: THE HISTORICALLY BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD OF SWARTHMORE, WHICH DOCUMENTS AND CELEBRATES THE HISTORY OF SWARTHMORE'S THREATENED HISTORICALLY BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD. THROUGH THE COLLECTION OF ORAL HISTORIES AND MULTIPLE COMMUNITY-BASED EVENTS, THE PROJECT ACTIVATES NEIGHBORHOOD AND CULTURAL MEMORY. WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF GAMELAN GITA SANTI AND MODERO AND COMPANY, A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN A MULTIGENERATIONAL GAMELAN (TRADITIONAL INDONESIAN MUSIC) ENSEMBLE AND AN INDONESIAN DANCE COMPANY. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ARTIST IVONNE PINTO-GARCIA, WE CO-SPONSORED A SERIES OF DA DE LOS MUERTOS-RELATED WORKSHOPS AND CELEBRATIONS. FINALLY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DOCUMENTARIAN NADIA HIRONAKA, WE SUPPORTED COMMUNITY-BASED WORKSHOPS LEADING TO THE CREATION OF AN ANIMATED FILM ABOUT THE EXPERIENCES OF LATIN AMERICAN IMMIGRANTS IN PHILADELPHIA.
