THE NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE FOR THE DEFENSE OF BATTERED WOMEN (THE ORGANIZATION) WAS ORGANIZED IN 1987 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING EDUCATION ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND INFORMATION ON AVAILABLE RESOURCES AND SERVICES TO THE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WHO ARE CHARGED WITH CRIMES RELATED TO THEIR EXPERIENCES OF ABUSE; EDUCATION AND TRAINING TO PERSONS WHO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THESE VICTIMS; EDUCATION AND SENSITIZATION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC CONCERNING THE VARIOUS PROBLEMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS CHARGED WITH CRIMES; AND SERVING AS A NATIONAL CLEARINGHOUSE OF INFORMATION AND RESOURCE MATERIALS ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS CHARGED WITH CRIMES.
