THE MISSION OF ACS NJ IS TO SUPPORT AND ADVANCE THE CHEMICAL EDUCATION AND CHEMICAL ENTERPRISE WITHIN ITS JURISDICTION, WHILE MAINTAINING A DEVOTION TO THE MEMBERS OF THE SECTION.

SECTION PROGRAMS


SECRETARY PROGRAMS. THE SECRETARY HANDLES MOST OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS OF THE NORTH JERSEY SECTION. THE PRIMARY EXPENSE IS THE LOCAL SECTION ELECTION.


EDUCATION. THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE ORGANIZES EVENTS AND PROVIDES AWARDS FOR K-12 STUDENTS, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. - MERRILL AWARD. THIS IS AN AWARD GIVEN TO A HIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY TEACHER FOR OUTSTANDING TEACHING WHERE NOMINATIONS COME FROM PAST STUDENTS - CHEM OLYMPIAD. THIS IS PART OF THE ACS NATIONAL CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD PROGRAM. TESTS ARE GIVEN TO HS STUDENTS, WHERE THE HIGHEST SCORING STUDENTS MAY BE INVITED TO A NATIONAL CAMP, AND COMPETE TO EARN A SPOT FOR AN INTERNATIONAL CHEMISTRY OLYMPIAD. THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE ORGANIZES THE TESTING AND PROVIDES AWARDS TO THE TOP STUDENTS IN THE STATE. - NCW. THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE ORGANIZES A POSTER CONTEST FOR K12 STUDENTS, BASED ON THE NATIONAL CHEMISTRY WEEK THEME, JUDGES THE POSTERS AND SENDS THE TOP POSTERS TO THE NATIONAL COMPETITION. PRIZES ARE GIVEN FOR TOP 3 IN EACH GRADE CATEGORY - EARTH DAY POSTER CONTEST. THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE ORGANIZES A POSTER CONTEST FOR K12 STUDENTS, BASED ON THE NATIONAL EARTH DAY THEME, JUDGES THE POSTERS AND SENDS THE TOP POSTERS TO THE NATIONAL COMPETITION. PRIZES ARE GIVEN FOR TOP 3 IN EACH GRADE CATEGORY - UNDERGRAD STUDENT TRAVEL AWARD. THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE REVIEWS APPLICATIONS AND PROVIDES TRAVEL MONEY $600 TO THE TOP 4 SUBMISSIONS, SO THAT UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS CAN TRAVEL TO NATIONAL MEETINGS AND PRESENT THEIR RESEARCH.
