JUSTICE DANCE PERFORMANCE PROJECT (JDPP) IS AN ARTS NON-PROFIT THAT HARNESSES CREATIVE EXPRESSION AS A CATALYST FOR POSITIVE CHANGE. JDPP USES DANCE THEATER PERFORMANCE AND MULTI-ARTS ENGAGEMENT TO EXAMINE SOCIAL ISSUES, BUILD BRIDGES OF UNDERSTANDING ACROSS DIVERSE COMMUNITIES, AND INSPIRE BOTH INDIVIDUAL GROWTH AND COLLECTIVE ACTION. PARTICIPANTS IN JDPP'S PROGRAMS DISCOVER UNTAPPED RESOURCES AS THEY GROW AND HEAL, OPENING NEW AND PRODUCTIVE CHANNELS IN THE PRESENT AND FOR THE FUTURE.

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE JDPP ENSEMBLE ENRICHES PUBLIC DIALOGUE AND AWARENESS OF SOCIAL JUSTICE THROUGH PIONEERING DANCE-BASED, MULTI-ARTS PERFORMANCES THAT EXAMINE CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL AND INDIVIDUAL ISSUES. KNOWN FOR ITS INNOVATIVE FUSION OF DANCE, TEXT, MUSIC, AND VISUAL DESIGN, THE JDPP REPERTORY SEARCHES DARKNESS TO DISCOVER LIGHT, DRAWING AUDIENCES INTO WORLDS THAT ILLUMINATE UNDERSTANDING AND REFLECTION. FY2022 PERFORMANCES INCLUDED TWO SHOWS OF PRISON-RELATED WORK, AND THREE VIRTUAL PERFORMANCES OF WORK BY BLACK ARTISTS EXPLORING SYSTEMIC RACISM.


BRIDGING BOUNDARIES HELPS INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FAMILIES RECONNECT, REENERGIZE, AND REGAIN COMMUNICATION SKILLS THROUGH THE ARTS. IN TANDEM WITH SOCIAL SERVICE PROFESSIONALS, TEACHING ARTISTS LEAD PARTICIPANTS IN INDIVIDUAL AND COLLABORATIVE STORYTELLING THROUGH DANCE AND MOVEMENT, AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL NARRATIVES, VISUAL ARTS, AND SONG-MAKING. IN FY 2022, JDPP OFFERED A REMOTE MOMS & KIDS RESIDENCY AT YORK CI FOR WOMEN, A REMOTE DADS & KIDS RESIDENCY AT CYBULSKI CI, AND IN-PERSON RESIDENCIES AT CREC CIVIC LEADERSHIP HIGH SCHOOL AND AT BRIDGEPORT AND HARTFORD MALE JUVENILE DETENTION CENTERS.


THE LONGEST-RUNNING ARTS-IN-EDUCATION PROGRAM WITHIN THE HARTFORD PUBLIC SCHOOLS, MOVING MATTERS IS RECOGNIZED AS A NATIONAL MODEL THAT BRINGS COLLABORATIVE DANCE-BASED, MULTI-ARTS RESIDENCIES INTO ELEMENTARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS. MOVING MATTERS IGNITES THE JOY OF DISCOVERY AND LEARNING THROUGH THE ARTS AND THE BODY AS A VESSEL FOR CREATIVITY. MOVING MATTERS PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED AT TWO HARTFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND OCCASIONALLY AT HIGHER GRADES. IN FY 2022, JDPP HELD IN-PERSON RESIDENCIES AT PARKVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL (GR. 3-5) AND AT EXPEDITIONARY LEARNING ACADEMY AT MOYLAN ELEMENTARY (GR. 3-5 AND K-1).
