BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH. IN 2021, VBRI'S BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM INCLUDED EIGHT PROJECTS IN THE AREAS OF DIABETES AND HYPERTENSION, GULF WAR ILLNESS, MENTAL HEALTH, NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS INCLUDING MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, AND TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY. RESEARCH PROJECTS WERE FUNDED BY GRANTS FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, NEW JERSEY COMMISSION FOR BRAIN INJURY RESEARCH AND PRIVATE DONORS.


CLINICAL RESEARCH. IN 2021, VBRI'S CLINICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM INCLUDED TWENTY-FOUR PROJECTS SERVING OVER SIXTY VETERAN AND CAREGIVER RESEARCH PARTICIPANTS IN THE AREAS OF AIRBORNE HAZARDS AND OTHER DEPLOYMENT RELATED ILLNESSES, CANCER, DIABETES AND HYPERTENSION, GULF WAR ILLNESS, MENTAL ILLNESS AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS, PULMONARY FUNCTION, SPINAL CORD DISORDERS, TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY, AND VASCULAR DISEASE. RESEARCH PROJECTS WERE FUNDED BY GRANTS FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE, NEW JERSEY COMMISSION FOR BRAIN INJURY RESEARCH AND INDUSTRY SPONSORS.


EDUCATION. IN 2021, VBRI'S EDUCATION PROJECTS INCLUDED TRAINING FOR VETERANS, FAMILY MEMBERS, CAREGIVERS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS IN A VARIETY OF DEPLOYMENT RELATED HEALTH CONCERNS. A NEWLY FUNDED COLON AND LUNG CANCER SCREENING EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR VETERANS, FAMILY MEMBERS, CAREGIVERS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS WAS DEVELOPED FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN 2022.
