OPERATE A HISOTRICAL CENTER CONTAINING ARTIFACTS AND DISPLAYS OF LOCAL HISTORY: WE WELCOMED SCHOOL GROUPS FROM HILTON AND THE GREECE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, COMMUNITY GROUPS, GROUPS FROM LOCAL CHURCHES, FROM THE GREECE COMMUNITY CENTER SENIORS PROGRAM, THE ATHENA MIDDLE SCHOOL HISTORY CLUB, AND MANY DECENDANTS OF PIONEER FAMILIES OF GREECE. WE HOSTED A TRAVELING EXHIBIT ON IMMIGRATION TO NY AND A SQUARE DANCE EXHIBIT. WE FEATURED EXHIBITS ON THE PIONEER FAMILIES OF GREECE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TOWNS 200TH ANNIVERSARY. THE HISTORICAL CENTER IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FROM MARCH TO DECEMBER ON SUNDAYS AND BY APPOINTMENT. WE CELEBRATED THE 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TOWN BY CREATING 55 10- MINUTE BICENTENNIAL SNAPSHOTS VIEWABLE ON OUR WEB SITE. DURING 2022 WE HAD 375 VISITORS SIGN IN AND WE ESTIMATE THAT AN ADDITIONAL NUMBER WERE NOT RECORDED AS VISITORS. THE HISTORICAL CENTER DOES NOT CHARGE ADMISSION BUT ACCEPTS DONATIONS FOR ADMISSION AND TOURS.
WE CONDUCT PUBLIC PROGRAMS ON LOCAL HISTORY. OUR 8 MONTHLY TUESDAY NIGHT PROGRAMS DREW AN AVERAGE OF 50 ATTENDES FOR EACH PROGRAM. THE PROGRAMS ARE CONDUCTED AT THE GREECE PUBLIC LIBRARY DUE TO SPACE REQUIREMENTS. MEMBER OF THE SOCIETY DO OFF-SITE PRESENTATIONS IF REQUESTED. THIS YEAR 11 PROGRAMS WERE CONDUCTED EITHER IN PERSON OR VIA ZOOM. PRESENTATIONS WERE TO THE KIWANIS CLUB OF GREECE, TO THE NORTHWEST CHAPTER OF AARP, ST. JOHNS LIVING CENTER, GREECE SCHOOLS FAMILY FEST, THE SHOPS AT WEST RIDGE, AND THE HONEOYE FALLS HISTORICAL SOCIETY. WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON A RESEARCH PROJECT TO DOCUMENT THE WORK OF THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN ARCHITECT IN GREECE AREA, THOMAS BOYDE. THIS WORK HAS BEEN ON-GOING SINCE 2020 AND ONLY HTE 2022 PORTION IS INCLUDED IN THE EXPENSES. AN EXHIBIT ON JUNETEENTH WAS ON DISPLAY AT OUR ANNUAL STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL ON JUNE 20TH, THE FIRST TIME THE HOLIDAY WAS CELEBRATED AS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY. WE JOINED WITH A GROUP OF WESTERN MONROE COUNTY MUSEUMS WITH A GOAL OF DEVELOPING IDEAS TO BETTER ADVERTISE OUT MUSEUMS AND HISTORICAL CENTERS. AS A RESULT, A BROCHURE LISTING LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETIES AND MUSEUMS ON A WESTERN MONROE COUNTY MUSEUM TRAIL WAS DESIGNED.
PUBLICATIONS: THE SOCIETY PUBLISHED VOLUME 1 OF THE PIONEER FAMILIES OF THE TOWN OF GREECE. THE SOCIETY ALSO OWNS THE RIGHTS TO THE 1976 BOOK MANITOU TROLLY DAYS, AND IN LATE 2021 WE SOLD OUR LAST COPY. IN 2022 WE ALLCATED FUNDS TO REPRINT 100 COPIES AND IT IS NOW AVAILABLE IN OUR GIFT SHOP. THE SOCIETY PARTICIPATED INA PROJECT WITH THE ROCHESTER REGIONAL LIBRARY COUNCIL TO DIGITIZE A COLLECTION OF THE GREECE POST NEWSPAPER (1995-2009) ANS WE AR STILL WORKING TO DIGITIZE 19167-19194. THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO FINISH IN 2023. THE SOCIETY PUBLISHES ITS OWN NEWSLETTER 11 TIME A YEAR. CIRCULATION IS 350 AN ISSUE TO SOCIETY MEMBERS, TOWN OFFICIALS, AND INTERESTED NON-MEMBERS. PRINT AND DIGITAL MEANS ARE USED TO DISTRIBUTE THIS NEWSLETTER. THE SOCIETY PUBLISHED A BOOK ON THE WORK OF LOCAL ARCHITECT JAMES . JOHNSON IN 2021. A SUUDY OF HIS WORK WAS COMPLETED IN 2020. FUNDS WERE ALLOCATED IN 2021 TO PUBLISH THE BOOK. 120 COPIES WERE PUBLISHED, AND ALL HAVE BEEN SOLD THROUGH OUE GIFT SHOP IN LATE 2021 AND 2022. PLANS ARE IN THE WORKS TO HAE AMAZON PUBLISHA 2ND EDITION OF THE JOHNSON BOOK. TARGET DATE IS 2023 OR EARLY 2024.
