FENCE PROGRAM: F.I.D.O. ASSISTS DOG OWNERS BY CONSTRUCTING OR REPAIRING FENCED ENCLOSURES TO FREE DOGS FROM CHAINS AND TO PROVIDE LARGE SECURE AREAS FOR DOGS TO EXERCISE FREELY. FENCED AREAS ARE BUILT TO ENCLOSE EXTERIOR DOORS OF THE HOME AND TO PROVIDE EASY ACCESS FOR OWNERS TO BRING THEIR DOGS INSIDE THEIR HOMES. FIDO IS THE ONLY ANIMAL WELFARE GROUP IN INDIANAPOLIS TO PROVIDE LARGE, SECURE, FENCED ENCLOSURES TO LOW-INCOME DOG OWNERS. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES A HUMANE ALTERNATIVE TO DOG TETHERING. FIDO'S FENCE PROGRAM ALSO PROMOTES PUBLIC SAFETY BY KEEPING DOGS SECURELY CONTAINED IN THEIR OWN YARD.FIDO COMPLETED 143 FENCE PROJECTS IN 2023 TO FREE OVER 378 DOGS FROM THE END OF A CHAIN.
PET FOOD PANTRY: F.I.D.O. PROVIDES APPROXIMATELY 15,000 POUNDS OF DOG AND CAT FOOD TO APPROXIMATELY 500 LOW-INCOME INDIANAPOLIS DOG/CAT OWNERS AND COMMUNITY CAT CARETAKERS EACH MONTH. F.I.D.O. ALSO ASSISTS LOW-INCOME DOG/CAT OWNERS AND COMMUNITY CAT CARETAKERS, BIWEEKLY, WITH ITHER BASIC PET SUPPLIES, INCLUDING FLEA TREATMENT, INSIDE DOG TRAINING CRATES, STRAW BEDDING, DOG HOUSES, COLLARS, AND LEASHES. IN 2023, FIDO DISTRIBUTED 183,295 POUNDS OF DOG AND CAT FOOD.
SPAY/NEUTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: FIDO IS ONE OF A FEW LOCAL ANIMAL GROUPS WORKING TO REMOVE ALL BARRIERS TO SPAY/NEUTER BY SCHEDULING, TRANSPORTING, AND FUNDING SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES ALONG WITH VACCINATIONS. MANY OF THE ANIMALS SERVED BY FIDO HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A VETERINARIAN AND HAVE REPRODUCED MULTIPLE PREVIOUS LITTERS, SOME ENDING UP IN OUR CITY SHELTER OR ON THE STREETS. FIDO REQUIRES COMPLIANCE WITH SPAY/NEUTER TO RECEIVE ALL SERVICES. IN 2023, FIDO ENSURED THAT 1,307 AT-RISK DOGS AND CATS WERE ALTERED.
OUTREACH PROGRAM; F.I.D.O. REACHES OUT TO STRUGGLING INDIANAPOLIS NEIGHBORHOODS WITH LARGE NUMBERS OF OUTSIDE DOGS. F.I.D.O. DRIVES DOWN STREETS AND ALLEYS TO FIND DOGS LIVING OUTSIDE AND OFFERS INFORMATION ON LOCAL DOG ORDANANCES AND PROVIDES DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO HELP THEIR OWNERS COMPLY. F.I.D.O. ALSO RESPONDS TO CALLS FROM CITIZENS FOR HELP WITH THEIR DOGS. F.I.D.O. PROVIDES FOLLOW UP HOME VISITS TO ENSURE PROGRESS WITH DOG CARE IS MAINTAINED. F.I.D.O. PARTERNS ON OUTREACH WITH INDIANAPOLIS ANIMAL CARE SERVICES OFFICERS, THE LOCAL ENFORCEMENT AGENCY FOR ANIMAL ORDINANCES. IN 2023, FIDO COMPLETED 1,446 HOME VISITS.
