BIKE-WALK ALLIANCE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE EDUCATES, ADVOCATES AND ACTIVATES TO IMPROVE BIKING AND WALKING CONDITIONS ACCROSS THE STATE OF NH.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

SAFETY & EDUCATION PROGRAMS EDUCATION: WALKING AND BIKING EDUCATION WAS CHALLENGING DUE TO COVID-19, SO MANY IN-PERSON CLASSES WERE SUSPENDED. HOWEVER, AS MUCH ON-LINE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES THAT WE COULD, WE MADE AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE AND IN OUR E- NEWSLETTER, LIKE HOW TO TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS WHEN BICYCLING OR WALKING DURING THE PANDEMIC. SAFETY: DUE TO BOTH THE DECREASED OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT IN-CLASS SESSIONS AND THE INCREASE IN OVERALL RIDERSHIP DURING THE PANDEMIC, WE CONTINUED A HELMET SAFETY PROGRAM TO PROVIDE HELMETS TO RIDERS UNABLE TO PURCHASE THEM ON THEIR OWN. WE CONTINUED OUR PARTICIPATION IN SEVERAL STATE SAFETY COMMISSIONS WHERE POSSIBLE USING ZOOM.

RECYCLED BICYCLE PROGRAM BIKE-WALK ALLIANCE SUPPORTS AND ENCOURAGES ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE STATE TO PROVIDE BICYCLES AT LOW OR FREE RATES TO PERSONS WHO WOULD LIKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THEIR OVERALL HEALTH AND/OR THOSE WHO NEED A BICYCLE AS A MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC IN NH, BIKING AND WALKING OUTDOORS BECAME INCREASINGLY POPULAR. WE SUPPORTED ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE STATE WHO WERE ATTEMPTING TO FILL THE NEED FOR LOW-COST BICYCLES. INCOME FROM SALES OF RECYCLED BIKES IS USED TO ADVERTISE AND PROVIDE FUNDS TO BUY REPLACEMENT PARTS AND ACCESSORIES.

RAIL TRAIL DEVELOPMENT & MAINTENANCE INTEREST IN RAIL TRAILS CONTINUED TO INCREASED DURING 2021. THE NH RAIL TRAIL CHALLENGE WAS CREATED IN 2020 TO EDUCATE RESIDENTS ABOUT THE MANY RAIL TRAILS ACROSS THE STATE AND CONTINUED TO BE POPULAR IN 2021. RAIL TRAIL DEVELOPMENT IS A LARGE FOCUS OF BWANH'S MISSION AND WE HAVE SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS DEDICATED TO EXTENDING RAIL TRAIL ACCESSIBILITY ACROSS THE STATE. BWANH BOARD MEMBERS AND MANY OTHER ADVOCATES WORK AT THE STATE LEVEL TO CONTINUE TO PROMOTE RAIL TRAILS, BOTH THEIR ACCESSIBILITY AND CONTINUE GROWTH.
