5TH RIGHT HEART SYMPOSIUM: NATF HOSTED A 2 DAY HYBRID EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM IN BOSTON, MA IN OCTOBER 2021 FOCUSED ON RIGHT HEART SYNDROME. THIS PROGRAM WAS FOR CLINICAL AND RESEARCH PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE INVOLVED IN THE CARE OF PATIENTS WITH, AND THE STUDY OF, RIGHT HEART DISEASE, CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE, PULMONARY HYPERTENSION, AND ASSOCIATED DISORDERS. COVERED TOPICS INCLUDE:A. ADVANCED RIGHT HEART FAILUREB. VALVULAR HEART DISEASEC. CHRONIC THROMBOEMBOLIC PULMONARY HYPERTENSIOND. PULMONARY HEART DISEASEE. VENOUS THROMBOSIS


TRANSGENDER: NATF LAUNCHED A NEW INITIATIVE THAT FOCUSES ON PREVENTING AND MANAGING THROMBOSIS IN TRANSGENDER PATIENTS. THE COMMITTEE FOR THIS INITIATIVE WILL COMPRISE BOTH HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS AND PATIENTS WHO WILL WORK TOGETHER TO PRODUCE TWO DELIVERABLES:A. THE PUBLICATION OF AN NATF ACTION INITIATIVE IN A PEER-REVIEWED MEDICAL JOURNAL THAT WILL IDENTIFY MULTIDISCIPLINARY BEST PRACTICES FOR VTE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT IN TRANSGENDER PATIENTS, AND IDENTIFY KNOWLEDGE GAPS AND AREAS FOR FUTURE RESEARCH.B. AN EDUCATION PROGRAM FOCUSED ON RAISING AWARENESS IN THE TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY ABOUT VTE PREVENTION, SYMPTOMS, AND RISK FACTORS. THE PROGRAM WILL ALSO INCLUDE TOOLS TO OPTIMIZE PATIENT-PROVIDER COMMUNICATION.WORK IS ONGOING FOR THIS PROJECT. THE FINAL MANUSCRIPT HAS BEEN SUBMITTED AND IS AWAITING PEER REVIEW.


VTE IN CANCER PATIENTS: NATF WORKED WITH A GROUP OF 20 CLINICIANS AND RESEARCHERS TO DRAFT A 4-PART MANUSCRIPT THAT WAS PUBLISHED IN THE ONCOLOGIST. THESE REVIEWS ADDRESS SEVERAL DISTINCT ASPECTS OF CAT MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING RISK PREDICTION, STRATEGIES FOR CAT PROPHYLAXIS AND TREATMENT, AND APPROACHES TO PATIENTS WITH UNIQUE CLINICAL CHALLENGES. THE SERIES CONCLUDES WITH A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF CANCER-SPECIFIC GUIDELINES AND OUTLINES AREAS WHERE ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE IS WARRANTED. NATF IS NOW USING THESE DOCUMENTS AS A BASIS FOR DEVELOPING A PATIENT EDUCATION PROGRAM, WHICH WILL CONSIST OF A DEDICATED WEBPAGE, RISK ASSESSMENT TOOL, AND EDUCATIONAL VIDEOS.


CTEPH PROGRAM: NATF HOSTED A 2-DAY HYBRID EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS IN PHILADELPHIA, PA IN SEPTEMBER 2021. THE UNITED STATES CTEPH PROCEEDINGS 2021 PROVIDED A MULTIDISCIPLINARY FRAMEWORK FOR THE EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC THROMBOEMBOLIC PULMONARY HYPERTENSION (CTEPH). COVERED TOPICS INCLUDED:A. THE EPIDEMIOLOGY OF CHRONIC THROMBOEMBOLIC DISEASE IN THE USB. CONTEMPORARY APPROACHES TO DIAGNOSING CTEPHC. THE LATEST IN SURGICAL ADVANCEMENTSD. THE ROLE OF PULMONARY HYPERTENSION (PH) TARGETED MEDICAL THERAPY AND BALLOON PULMONARY ANGIOPLASTY (BPA) IN THE MANAGEMENT OF INOPERABLE CTEPHTHE CONFERENCE FORMAT COMPRISED DIDACTIC PRESENTATIONS, DEBATES, AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS INVOLVING NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS IN THE FIELD. THERE WERE SCHEDULED OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE SYMPOSIUM FOR INTERACTIVE AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION.
