THE MADRONA INSTITUTE'S COAST SALISH YOUTH STEWARDSHIP CORPS (CSYSC) PROGRAM EXPERIENCED REDUCED ACTIVITY DUE TO THE ONGOING PANDEMIC. ONLINE COASTSALISH LANGUAGE CLASSES WERE OFFERED TO CSYSC CREW MEMBERS. A HUCKLEBERRY RESTORATION PROJECT WAS CONDUCTED WITH THE US FOREST SERVICE, AND A CREW CAMPOUT AND REUNION WAS HELD IN THE SUMMER. THE MADRONA INSTITUTE PROVIDED STAFF SUPPORT TO THE STEWARDSHIP NETWORK OF THE SAN JUANS IN 2021. A PARTNERSHIP WAS ESTABLISHED WITH THE INDIGENOUS EDUCATION INSTITUTE REGARDING A PACIFIC NORTHWEST INDIGENOUS SPEAKER SERIES IN DECEMBER THAT WILL BE ONGOING INTO 2022 AND BEYOND. THE MADRONA INSTITUTE'S ISLANDS CLIMATE RESILIENCE TEAM PROVIDED WRITTEN INPUT TO THE NEW SAN JUAN COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ENVIROMENTAL STEWARDSHIP REGARDING FORMATION OF THE COUNTY'S CLIMATE AND SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE. ONE NEW BOARD MEMBER JOINED THE MADRONA INSTITUTE IN 2021, ANNE MARIE SHANKS OF DEER HABOR, WA.
