Part 3 - Line 4a
ONE TO ONETHIS IS A READING PROGRAM UNDER OUR REDUCE BARRIERS TO LEARNING GOAL. WE HAVE COACHES WHO VOLUNTEER, IN THE SCHOOLS, TO WORK ON READING SKILLS WITH ONE CHILD ONCE A WEEK. WE PROVIDE A KIT TO EACH COACH WITH GAMES AND TOOLS NEEDED FOR HELPING THE STUDENTS WITH READING. WE SERVE 13 DISTRICTS AND 32 SCHOOLS WITH THIS PROGRAM. OUR GOAL IS TO GROW THE PROGRAM AND SERVE POSSIBLY 500 STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY. THE STUDENTS ARE NOT ONLY WORKING ON THEIR READING SKILLS BUT ALSO GAINING A FRIEND BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. IN 2021 WE DROPPED FROM 150 COACHES TO 132 BECAUSE OF COVID-19. OUR COACHES ARE TYPICALLY RETIRED AND SOME WERE CONCERNED WITH GOING INTO THE SCHOOLS.
EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION CELEBRATION DINNERTHIS IS OUR ANNUAL DINNER TO CELEBRATE AND HONOR TEACHERS, STAFF, STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. WE PRESENT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS ALONG WITH A VIDEO PRESENTATION OF EACH AWARD WINNER. THERE ARE OVER 400 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE FOR THIS EVENT HELD AT A LOCAL EVENT CENTER. OUR AWARD WINNERS, THEIR FAMILIES AND OUR BUSINESS SPONSORS ARE THERE FOR A WONDERFUL EVENING OF CELEBRATION.
RESILIENT AND READYTHIS PROGRAM IS PROVIDED TO DISTRICTS TO MEASURE THE STUDENTS WHO FEEL VICTIMIZED OR TRAUMA. STUDENTS SURVEYED WERE FROM SEVEN DISTRICTS AND TOTALED OVER 20,000. WE HAVE COMPLETED THE SURVEY SINCE 2017 AND THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN THE AT RISK LEVEL HAS DECREASED ACROSS ALL SCHOOL LEVELS. THIS IS A RESULT OF THE GUIDANCE THE STUDENTS RECEIVE FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELORS AND ADMINISTRATION. THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS REPORTING DISTRESS ASSOCIATED WITH ALCOHOL/DRUG USE COMPARED TO THE 2018 DATA. THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATING THIS YEAR WAS LESS DUE TO THE FACT THAT SOME WERE STILL LEARNING FROM HOME DUE TO COVID-19.
