COMPOSER LIBRETTIST DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - MENTORSHIP: ALT OFFERED ITS NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED TRAINING PROGRAM FOR EMERGING OPERATIC WRITERS THROUGH A COMBINATION OF REMOTE AND IN PERSON CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS. A NEW COHORT OF 6 ARTIST PARTICIPATED IN THE CLDP CORE CURRICULUM, WHICH INCLUDED OVER 250 HOURS OF PERSONALIZED MENTORSHIP. THESE ARTISTS ALSO DEVELOPED 3 ONE-ACT OPERAS, THAT PREMIERED IN CONCERT AT NATIONAL SAWDUST IN BROOKLYN, NY. 10 RETURNING ARTISTS CONTINUED THE DEVELOPMENT OF FULL-LENGTH OPERAS COMMISSIONED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CLDP IN PRIOR SEASONS.


DIGITAL PROGRAMS: ALT LAUNCHED THE ARIA ACCESS PROJECT, WHICH AIMS TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF AND ACCESS TO ARIAS BY DIVERSE, CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN COMPOSERS AND LIBRETTISTS WHOSE SCORES REMAIN LARGELY UNPUBLISHED. THIS ONLINE HUB INCLUDES ARIAS FROM WORKS THAT HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED THEIR PREMIERES, AS WELL AS FROM OPERAS FOR WHICH THE PREMIERES ARE FORTHCOMING. AT LAUNCH, THE AAP INCLUDED 20 DIFFERENT ARIAS, ALL AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD AS PDFS FOR EDUCATIONAL AND AUDITION PURPOSES. (THE AAP WAS USED BY 1,850 PEOPLE)

CHEN AND DAVID SIMPATICO; THE HALLOWEEN TREE BY THEO POPOV AND TONY ASARO; SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE FALLEN GIANT BY EVAN MEIER AND ELLEN LEWIS; THE OPPOSABLE THUMB, BY JORGE SOSA AND JULIAN CROUCH; AND THE SELFISH GIANT, BY CLARICE ASSAD AND LILA PALMER, AND SPLINTERED, BY JUSTINE F. CHEN, JORGE SOSA, AND LILA PALMER. (10 ARTISTS WERE SERVED DIRECTLY BY THE COMMISSIONING PROGRAM).


COMPOSER LIBRETTIST DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - WORKSHOPS: ALT HELD DEVELOPMENTAL WORKSHOPS FOR OPERAS DEVELOPED UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE CLDP, AS WELL AS FOR WORKS COMMISSIONED BY THE COMPANY. THESE PIANO/VOCAL WORKSHOPS WERE CARRIED OUT TO PROVIDE ARTISTS WITH THE RESOURCES NECESSARY TO FURTHER DEVELOP THEIR OPERAS IN PROGRESS. PUBLIC PERFORMANCES TOOK PLACE AT NATIONAL SAWDUST IN BROOKLYN, NY, AND THE DIMENNA CENTER FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC IN MANHATTAN; AND THESE PERFORMANCES WERE ALSO RECORDED AND SHARED FOR FREE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA.
