-IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HIGH POINT, NC POLICE DEPARTMENT, HPCAV CONTINUED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN OUR COMMUNITY ORIENTED VIOLENT CRIME REDUCTION STRATEGY INVOLVING FOCUSED DETERRENCE POLICING. HPCAV PROVIDES INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE TO EX-OFFENDERS REFERRED BY THE HIGH POINT POLICE OFFENSE TASK FORCE WITH THE GOAL OF RE-ESTABLISHING THEM AS PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS. SERVICES PROVIDED INCLUDE COUNSELING, A 24 HOUR CRISIS LINE, ASSISTANCE WITH LIVING EXPENSES, JOB TRAINING AND HELP IN SECURING EMPLOYMENT. -THERE WAS A SMALL DECRESE IN VIOLENT CRIME OVERALL IN 2017, AND THIS IS ONE OF THE LOWEST YEARS OF VIOLENT CRIME SINCE THE PEAK IN 1994. -IN 2017, THE PROPERTY CRIME INDEX RATE WAS UP SLIGHTLY FROM 2016, BUT IT IS STILL ONE OF THE LOWEST SINCE THE PEAK IN 1996. (1973 WAS THE YEAR THE UNIFORM CRIME REPORTING SYSTEM BEGAN.)
