FAMILY ADVOCATES, INC. CONTINUED TO DEDICATE ITS RESOURCES TO SERVING SENIOR CITIZENS DURING 2021 AND CONTINUED WITH "REMOTE" REPRESENTATION OF CLIENTS. IN PERSON CONSULTS WERE RESTRICTED TO 1 TIME PER MONTH RESPONDING TO CONTINUED PANDEMIC RESTRICTIONS AND THE SPREAD OF COVID IN ULSTER AND COLUMBIA COUNTIES. WE HAD COMPETED FOR AND WERE AGAIN AWARDED THE COLUMBIA COUNTY OFFICE FOR THE AGING LEGAL SERVICES GRANT FOR THE YEAR BUT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS DETERMINED NOT TO SEND REPRESENTATIVES TO SCHOOL-BASED MEETINGS OR HEARINGS. MOST STUDENTS REMAINED ON REMOTE LEARNING PROGRAMS. FAMILY ADVOCATES CONTINUED TO REPORT PROVISION OF BRIEF SERVICE, ADVICE AND ADVOCACY AND LEGAL REPRESENTATION TELEPHONICALLY (AND OTHER DIGITAL ACCESS). THE ANNUAL CASELOAD INCREASED UP TO 860 SENIORS SERVED ON ISSUES RELATING TO PUBLIC BENEFITS, WILL PREPARATION, ADVICE ON TRUSTS & OTHER QUESTIONS OF FUTURE CARE PLANNING, HOUSING, MEDICAL SERVICES, FAMILY AND CONTRACT LAW. THROUGHOUT 2021, FAMILY ADVOCATES PROVIDED "OF COUNSEL" SERVICES TO KINGSTON-BASED LAW FIRM WHICH RESULTED IN AN ATTORNEYS FEES SETTLEMENT OF $126,215.38 WHICH WAS ONE-HALF THE TOTAL FEE AWARD GRANTED BY THE NYS COURT OF CLAIMS. WE MAINTAINED THE KINGSTON YWCA OFFICE AND HAD 4 IN-PERSON BOARD MEETINGS.
