THE ORGANIZATION IS DEDICATED TO PRESERVING THE HISTORY OF THE NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. THROUGH ITS EXHIBITIONS, COLLECTIONS, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, THE MUSEUM ILLUSTRATES HOW THE POLICIES AND CULTURE OF THE NYPD HAVE EVOLVED OVER TIME TO MEET THE CHANGING NEEDS OF THE CITY. THE MUSEUM SERVES AS AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION, LIVING MEMORIAL, AND BRIDGE OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE VARIOUS COMMUNITIES OF NEW YORK, THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AND THE NEW YORK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THE COLLECTION MANAGEMENT SECTION OF PROGRAM SERVICES MAINTAINS, UPDATES AND ORGANIZES NEW AND EXISTING COLLECTIONS, WHICH TRACE THE HISTORY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT FROM ITS EARLIEST BEGINNINGS TO TODAY'S MODERN POLICE FORCE. THE MUSEUM SYSTEM HAS BEEN CUSTOMIZED SO THAT THE DATABASE, CATALOGUING AND DIGITALIZATION COLLECTIONS MEETS ITS SPECIFIC NEEDS. THE COLLECTION AND ARCHIVES COMPRISE THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF NYC POLICE DEPARTMENT MEMORABILIA IN EXISTENCE THAT CAN BE MADE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.


THE EDUCATION SECTION OF PROGRAM SERVICES PROVIDES INNOVATIVE AND INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND ADULTS OF ALL AGES. THESE ENGAGE VISITORS WITH THE HISTORY OF NEW YORK, THE HISTORY OF THE NYPD AND THE ROLE OF POLICE IN NEW YORK CITY IN A FUN, INFORMAL ENVIRONMENT. PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND CAMP GROUPS ARE HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WHICH INCLUDE HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES.


THE EXHIBITION SECTION OF PROGRAM SERVICES PROVIDES TO THE PUBLIC EXHIBITS WHICH DEPICT THE HISTORY OF POLICE IN NEW YORK, THE TOOLS POLICE USE AND HOW POLICING HAS CHANGED SINCE 9/11. THE EXHIBITIONS ALSO SERVE AS A MEMORIAL TO THE OFFICERS WHO RISK THEIR LIVES EVERY DAY TO KEEP US SAFE.
