NAATCO'S MISSION IS TO ASSERT THE PRESENCE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF ASIAN AMERICAN THEATRE IN THE UNITED STATES, DEMONSTRATING ITS VITAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FABRIC OF AMERICAN CULTURE. NAATCO PUTS INTO SERVICE ITS TOTAL COMMITMENT TO ASIAN AMERICAN THEATRE ARTISTS TO MORE ACCURATELY REPRESENT ONSTAGE THE MULTI- AND INTERCULTURAL DYNAMICS OF OUR SOCIETY. NAATCO IS EQUALLY COMMITTED TO ASIAN AMERICAN THEATRE TECHNICIANS AND ADMINISTRATORS. THROUGH OUR PRACTICE, WE DEMONSTRATE A RICH TAPESTRY OF CULTURAL DIFFERENCE BOUND BY THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF OUT OF TIME, A COLLECTION OF FIVE MONOLOGUES FOR CHARACTERS OVER THE AGE OF 60, EACH ONE WRITTEN BY AN ASIAN AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHT. THE FOLLOWING FIVE WOMEN WERE COMMISSIONED BY NAATCO: JACLYN BACKHAUS, SAM CHANSE, MIA CHUNG, NAOMI IIZUKA, AND ANNA OUYANG MOENCH. THE PROJECT WAS CONCEIVED AND DIRECTED BY LES WATERS AND WAS PRESENTED AT THE PUBLIC THEATER FROM FEBRUARY 15 - MARCH 13, 2022. THIS DID NOT CONFORM TO ANY OF OUR USUAL PROGRAMMING, BUT IT FELL WITHIN THE GUIDELINES OF OUR MISSION TO ASSERT ASIAN AMERICAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE AMERICAN THEATRE. ALL THE CHARACTERS WERE ASIAN AMERICANS OVER THE AGE OF 60, THREE OUT OF FOUR DESIGNERS AND OUR ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER WERE ASIAN AMERICAN AND SO WAS OUR COMPANY MANAGER. WE WERE RESPONDING TO THE TIMES, AND THE SUBJECTS OF THE PLAYS ADDRESSED ISOLATION, AGING, IDENTITY, SICKNESS, AND LONELINESS.


WE INAUGURATED OUR NEWEST PROGRAM, THE NAATCO NATIONAL PARTNERSHIP PROJECT (NNPP) WITH LONG WHARF THEATRE IN NEW HAVEN, CT WHO PRODUCED MADHURI SHEKARS QUEEN. NAATCO TRANSFERRED THE PRODUCTION DIRECTLY TO NEW YORK AND PRESENTED IT THE ART/NY MEZZANINE THEATRE FROM JUNE 10 JULY 1, 2022. THE PRODUCTION WAS DIRECTED BY ANEESHA KUDTARKAR.
