LABOR ORGANIZATION PROVIDING REPRESENTATION TO APPROXIMATELY 6,000 SUFFOLK COUNTY UNION MEMBERS AND APPROXIMATELY 1,300 RETIREES.

THE ORGANIZATION WAS FORMED TO FURTHER THE INTERESTS OF ITS MEMBERSHIP BY SEEKING IMPROVED TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT, TO RENDER MORAL AND MATERIAL AID TO MEMBERS AS NEEDED, TO PROVIDE REPRESENTATION AND/OR COUNSEL IN LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, TO PROMOTE SOCIAL AND FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES, TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY RELATIONS BETWEEN THE DEPARTMENT AND THE CITIZENS IT SERVES, AND TO PROMOTE THE COMMUNITY THROUGH DONATIONS.


THE ASSOCIATION ISSUES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS TO QUALIFYING AME MEMBERS AND THE CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN OF AME MEMBERS. AWARDS ARE ISSUED TO ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS ATTENDING AN ACCREDITED INSTITUTION WHO ARE REGISTERED AS FULL-TIME STUDENTS.


THE ASSOCIATION ADMINISTERS A TUITION REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO SUFFOLK COUNTY EMPOYEES WHO WISH TO TAKE COURSES THAT WILL EITHER IMPROVE JOB PERFORMANCE OR ENHANCE THEIR CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MUTUAL BENEFIT OF BOTH THE EMPLOYEES AND SUFFOLK COUNTY. THE ASSOCIATION PROVIDES REIMBURSEMENTS EQUAL TO 75% OF THE COST OF APPROVED COURSES OF STUDY UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION.
