RUN THE KRISTKINDL MARKET WHICH IS AN ANNUAL WEEKEND LONG CHRISTMAS FAIR THAT MIRRORS THE WORLD FAMOUS KRISTKINDL MARKETS HELD IN BOTH GERMANY AND AUSTRIA. THE KRISTKINDL MARKET CELEBRATES GERMAN HERITAGE BY OFFERING GERMAN IMPORT ITEMS, FOOD, MUSIC AND TRADITIONS.
AWARD A GERMAN LANGUAGE SCHOLARSHIP TO A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR WHO HAS STUDIED THE GERMAN LANGUAGE DURING THE COURSE OF HIS/HER HIGH SCHOOL CAREER. THE SCHOLARSHIP'S AIM IS TO ENCOURAGE THE STUDY OF GERMAN HERITAGE, CULTURE, AND LANGUAGE AMONG THE YOUNGER GENERATION.
RUN THE ANNUAL VOLKSFEST WHICH IS A WEEKEND LONG SUMMER FESTIVAL CELEBRATING GERMAN HERITAGE VIA GERMAN MUSIC, DANCING, FOOD, GAMES AND CUSTOMS.
SPONSOR A FLOAT IN THE GERMAN-AMERICAN STEUBEN PARADE WHICH IS HELD ANNUALLY ON THE THIRD SATURDAY IN SEPTEMBER. THE PARADE WAS FOUNDED IN 1957 BY GERMAN IMMIGRANTS AND GERMAN-AMERICANS ONE OF THE LARGEST ANCESTRAL GROUPS LIVING IN THE UNITED STATES, WHO WANTED TO KEEP THE TRADITIONS OF THEIR HOMELAND ALIVE. THEY NAMED THE PARADE AFTER FRIEDRICH WILHELM VON STEUBEN, A PRUSSIAN-BORN GENERAL WHO SERVED WITH GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR. VON STEUBEN IS STILL REGARDED AS ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL GERMANS FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO AMERICA'S FIGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE; HIS TRAINING OF THE YOUNG AMERICAN TROOPS HELPED ACHIEVE VICTORY AGAINST THE BRITISH.
