THE IM ABLE FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS TO DISABLED INDIVIDUALS AND SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE HAND-CYCLES, ADAPTIVE SKIS AND INSTRUCTIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR THOSE IN NEED. THE ORGANIZATION'S PURPOSE IS TO UNLEASH THE POTENTIAL IN PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED CHILDREN AND ADULTS TO BE MORE ACTIVE, ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF PHYSICAL FITNESS, AND SPEND MORE TIME IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS. THIS YEAR'S IM ABLE FOUNDATION BASH FUNDRAISER RAISED OVER 27,000 TOWARD FUTURE ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT GRANTS.
THE GOAL OF THE IM ABLE FOUNDATION'S INCLUSIVE FITNESS PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE AN AFFORDABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE TO REAP THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL BENEFITS OF FITNESS. GRANTS ARE AWARDED TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE LOOKING TO TAKE PART IN FITNESS PROGRAMS, BUT MAY BE LIMITED BY FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. THE DELIVERY OF THIS PROGRAM TAKES PLACE THROUGH IM ABLE AFFILIATED CENTERS, AS WELL AS WITH A TEAM OF TRAINERS THAT CAN GO TO A FACILITY, SUCH AS A YMCA, AND WORK WITH THE INDIVIDUAL LOCALLY.
THE IM ABLE FOUNDATION'S PURPOSE IS TO GET OUT IN THE COMMUNITY AND SHOW PEOPLE OF ALL ABILTIES THE POTENTIAL TO LEAD AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE. THE ORGANIZATION'S FOUNDER, CHRIS KAAG, DOES SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS TO SHOW THAT, REGARDLESS OF HIS WHEELCHAIR, HE MAINTAINS AN ACTIVE AND FULFILLING LIFE THROUGH HANDCYCLING, WORKING OUT AT THE GYM, AND KAYAKING. THROUGH "GETTING UP AND MOVING", INDIVIDUALS WILL LOOK AT THEMSELVES AND ASK WHY THEY MAKE EXCUSES AS TO WHY THEY'RE NOT ACTIVE. EVERY YEAR THE ORGANIZATION REACHES OUT TO THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES TO EDUCATE AND INFORM. IN THE FUTURE, THE ORGANIZATION IS LOOKING TO ESTABLISH PARTNERSHIPS WITH SOME OF THE MAJOR REHABILITATION FACILITIES IN SOUTHEASTERN AND CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA.
