RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE COMMUNITY HEALTH AND TO ELIMINATE HEALTH DISPARITIES IN RHODE ISLAND AND BEYOND.

HEALTH PROMOTION & PREVENTION - RIPHI OVERSEES SEVERAL HEALTH PROMOTION AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS, FOR BOTH CHRONIC AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES. THESE INCLUDE SEVERAL PROGRAMS RELATED TO PROMOTING ACCESS TO HEALTHY FRUITS AND VEGETABLES, ACTIVE LIVING, REDUCING CONSUMPTION OF UNHEALTHY FOODS, PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COVID-19 TESTING AND VACCINATION, AND GEOGRAPHICALLY FOCUSED HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMS. THE ORGANIZATION OVERSEES THE FOOD ON THE MOVE PROGRAM, A MOBILE PRODUCE MARKET THAT SERVES MANY RHODE ISLANDERS OF LOW SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS. RIPHI OVERSEES DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAMS. MANY OF RIPHI'S PPROGRAMS FOCUS ON SERVING LOW-INCOME RHODE ISLANDERS, LATINX POPULATIONS, LGBTW INDIVIDUALS, OLDER ADULTS, AND PEOPLE OF COLOR. ADDITIONALLY, RIPHI OVERSEES PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT HIV AND HEPATITIS SCREENING, PREVENTION AND TREATMENT PROGRAMS. RIPHI ALSO OVERSEES PUBLIC HEALTH PARTNERSHIPS WITH FAITH INSTITUTIONS AND AFRICAN AMERICAN CHURCHES IN THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES.


CLINICAL SERVICES - RIPHI OWNS AND OVERSEES OPEN DOOR HEALTH, AN AMBULATORY MEDICAL CARE FACILITY THAT PROVIDES BOTH PRIMARY AND SEXUAL HEALTH CARE TO RHODE ISLAND'S DIVERSE COMMUNITY. OPEN DOOR HEALTH PROVIDES GENDER AFFIRMING CARE, HIV SCREENING AND HIV TREATMENT SERVICES, AND COVID TESTING AND VACCINATION SERVICES. OPEN DOOR HEALTH IS THE ONLY CLINIC IN RHODE ISLAND DEDICATED TO PROVIDING CULTURALLY CONGRUENT CARE TO THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY AS A CORE FUNCTION OF ITS MISSION. OPEN DOOR HEALTH ALSO HOSTS SEVERAL RELATED PUBLIC HEALTH AND CLINICAL PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO ENHANCE HEALTH EQUITY.


ADVOCACY, POLICY & WORKFORCE TRAINING - RIPHI ENGAGES IN ADVOCACY FOCUSED ON ADVANCING HEALTH EQUITY. IN 2021, RIPHI CONTINUED ITS STATEWIDE ADVOCACY FOCUSED ON HUNGER ALLEVIATION AND PROMOTING HEALTHY EATING IN RHODE ISLAND. RIPHI HOSTS SEVERAL PROGRAMS RELATED TO TRAINING THE PUBLIC HEALTH WORKFORCE , INCLUDING CLINICIANS, PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTITIONERS, AND OTHER STUDENTS IN THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS. RIPHI ALSO EVALUATES AND PUBLISHES ON MANY OF ITS INNOVATING PUBLIC HEALTH PROGRAMS.


PUBLIC HEALTH AND CLINICAL RESEARCH-RIPHI OVERSEES RESEARCH STUDIES ON A VARIETY OF HEALTH TOPICS FOCUSED ON ADVANCING HEALTH EQUITY. RIPHI OVERSEES RESEARCH RELATED TO HUNGER ALLEVIATION, PROMOTING HEALTH EATING BEHAVIORS, HIV PREVENTION AND TREATMENT, AS WELL AS COVID-19 TESTING AND VACCINATION. RIPHI PUBLISHES THESE ARTICLES IN SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS AND DISSEMINATES FINDINGS IN THE POPULAT MEDIA TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT HEALTH EQUITY. RIPHI AIMS TO TRANSLATE RESEARCH FINDINGS INTO EFFECTIVE POLICY CHANGE THAT ADVANCES HEALTH EQUITY.
