I2SL'S MAJOR SOURCE OF INCOME IS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE, WHICH TOOK PLACE IN PITTSBURGH IN OCTOBER 2022 WITH AN AUDIENCE OF 500 LABORATORY OWNERS, MANAGERS, DESIGNERS, ENGINEERS, AND BUILDERS. REVENUE EARNED FROM CONFERENCE ATTENDEES, SPONSORS, AND EXHIBITS HELPED FUND I2SL'S OTHER FUNCTIONS. AS IN PREVIOUS YEARS, THE CONFERENCE PROVIDED SIGNIFICANT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND PROFESSIONAL CREDITS, BOTH AT THE CONFERENCE AND THROUGH VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES SUCH AS WEBINARS AND WORKSHOPS. I2SL ENCOURAGED ITS MANY CHAPTERS AROUND THE COUNTRY TO OFFER EDUCATIONAL EVENTS, WHICH THEY DID BOTH VIRTUALLY AND IN PERSON ON A LIMITED BASIS.I2SL WAS AWARDED A SUBCONTRACT LATE IN 2021 BY THE NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY LABORATORY TO CONDUCT VIRTUAL WEBINARS, CREATE BEST PRACTICE GUIDES, AND CONDUCT RESEARCH DURING 2022. IT ALSO SUPPORTS I2SL HOSTING AN ONLINE SMART LABS TOOLKIT. AT THE END OF 2022, NREL SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED THE SCOPE AND BUDGET OF THIS PROJECT.IN FALL 2022, I2SL INITIATED A NEW PROJECT, LABS2ZERO, DEDICATED TO DECARBONIZING THE WORLD'S LABORATORIES BY PROVIDING BENCHMARKING, SCORES, REPORTS, AND CERTIFICATION FOR LAB ENERGY AND GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS PERFORMANCE. THE PROGRAM WILL UNDERTAKE MAJOR FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES AND BEGIN DEVELOPMENT IN 2023.
