WHH RENTS AND MAINTAINS 5 SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLINGS THAT PROVIDE LONG TERM COOPERATIVE LIVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR 24 ADULTS LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES. THE HOMES ARE SEMI-INDEPENDENT WITH THE EXPECTATION THAT RESIDENTS ARE CLEAN AND SOBER. EACH HOME IS FULLY FURNISHED TO CREATE A FAMILY ATMOSPHERE. MOST OF THE RESIDENTS HAVE A PRIVATE ROOM WITH A SHARED BATHROOM AS WELL AS ACCESS TO ALL OF THE OTHER PARTS OF THE HOME - KITCHEN LIVING ROOM BATHROOMS AND OUTSIDE AREAS. WEEKLY HOUSE MEETINGS ARE FACILITATED BY A WHH STAFF MEMBER TO ASSIST WITH MEAL PLANNING DIVISION OF HOUSEHOLD CHORES AND TO ENCOURAGE MUTUAL SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY. STAFF MEMBERS ALSO PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE WITH SYMPTOM MANAGEMENT AND THE USE DEVELOPMENT OF COPING SKILLS.
ABIDING HOPE WAS A 7 TO 14 DAY RESPITE FACILITY FOR INDIVIDUALS 18 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER WITH PSYCHIATRIC DISABILITY. WE PROVIDED A SHORT-TERM ALTERNATIVE TO AN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT VISIT OR ACUTE HOSPITALIZATION FOR PERSONS EXPERIENCING OVERWHELMING STRESS WHICH CAN BE ALLEVIATED WITH A BRIEF RESPITE STAY. ABIDING HOPE RESPITE HOUSE WAS A COED FACILITY THAT HOUSES A MAXIMUM OF FIVE CLIENTS EACH DAY.
