THE MALTZ MUSEUM OF JEWISH HERITAGE IS AN AMERICAN STORY OF DIVERSITY AND TOLERANCE.

Part 3 - Line 4a

CORE COLLECTION - THE MUSEUM FEATURES TWO CORE EXHIBITIONS. AN AMERICAN STORY CHRONICLES THE IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCE, DEVELOPMENT OF CLEVELAND, CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT AND THE HOLOCAUST. THE TEMPLE-TIFERETH ISRAEL GALLERY DISPLAYS THE NATIONALLY RENOWNED COLLECTION OF JUDAICA FROM ITS NAMESAKE SYNAGOGUE. EACH YEAR AN AVERAGE OF 8,500 STUDENTS TOUR THE MUSEUM'S CORE COLLECTIONS, THE CONTENT OF WHICH ALIGNS WITH OHIO LEARNING STANDARDS IN THE AREAS OF SOCIAL STUDIES AND LANGUAGE ARTS. TOPICS INCLUDE IMMIGRATION AND ASSIMILATION, THE HOLOCAUST AND CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT, CLEVELAND HISTORY, AND JEWISH FAITH AND TRADITIONS. MORE THAN 120,000 STUDENTS HAVE EXPERIENCED THESE TOURS, 40% OF WHOM RECEIVED FREE TRANSPORTATION BASED ON NEED WITHIN THEIR SCHOOL DISTRICT. STUDENTS IN THE CLEVELAND METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT ALSO RECEIVE FREE ADMISSION, ENSURING THAT COST IS NEVER A BARRIER TO EXPERIENCING THE MUSEUM.


SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS - THE MUSEUM HAS PRESENTED 35 SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS, THE CONTENT OF WHICH HAS VARIED FROM COMIC SUPERHEROES TO AN EXAMINATION OF THE LIFE AND TIMES OF RUTH BADER GINSBURG. THE MUSEUM CURRENTLY HAS THREE EXHIBITIONS TRAVELING NATIONALLY: OPERATION FINALE: THE CAPTURE & TRIAL OF ADOLF EICHMANN; THIS LIGHT OF OURS: ACTIVIST PHOTOGRAPHERS OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT; AND ISRAEL: THEN & NOW.


STOP THE HATE - A NEW DIGITAL STOP THE HATE TOUR, WHICH MEETS OHIO LEARNING STANDARDS IN SOCIAL STUDIES; A SERIES OF VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS WITH LEI AND ROAM TEACHING ARTISTS, WHO ENGAGE DIRECTLY WITH THE STUDENTS TO HELP THEM MAKE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN HISTORY AND THEIR OWN LIVES, BETWEEN LEARNING AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION; A ROBUST SET OF CURRICULAR MATERIALS TO SUPPORT FURTHER CLASSROOM WORK, INCLUDING A LEARNING PROGRESSION AND A LIST OF SUGGESTED READING; THE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO SUBMIT THEIR WORK TO THE STOP THE HATE ESSAY OR SONGWRITING CONTESTS. IN 2020-2021, THE PROGRAM DELIVERED ANTI-BIAS EDUCATION TO 2,436 STUDENTS IN 120 CLASSROOMS WHERE IT COULD EASILY HAVE FALLEN BY THE WAYSIDE.
