Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
AS THE SECOND YEAR OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, 2021 CONTINUED TO BE A CHALLENGE FOR HANOVER AND NORWICH TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATION. DURING THIS YEAR, AS VACCINES BECAME AVAILABLE, OUR SCHOOLS WERE FULLY IN-PERSON WITH REMOTE/HYBRID OPTIONS AS NEEDED. THE FRIENDS OF HANOVER NORWICH SCHOOLS ORGANIZATION (FHNS) WAS PLEASED TO HELP TEACHERS, STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS WITH UNIQUE NEEDS TO AID IN THE IN-PERSON SCHOOLING OF CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY WHEN MANY IN OUR COUNTRY WERE STILL REMOTE. TO THIS END, THE FHNS GRANTED 42,804.49 IN 2021. IN THE SPRING, WE FUNDED ALTERNATIVE SEATING OPTIONS, CHROME BOOK INITIATIVES FOR STUDENTS, SPIRIT WEAR AND THE PRODUCTION OF AN OPERA FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL. WE HELPED WITH HALLWAY ART FOR THE MATH DEPARTMENT, A NATIVE AMERICAN FESTIVAL AND A RE- TOOLING FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL WORKSHOP. IN THE FALL OF 2021, WE FUNDED K-3 LITERACY INITIATIVES, A VISITING JAPANESE ARTIST/STORYTELLER, READING AND MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, AND A PILOT PROGRAM TO EVALUATE NEW AND INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT. WE SUPPLIED DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY AND SOLAR OBSERVATION EQUIPMENT FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS. WE WERE ALSO PLEASED TO HELP FUND AN INITIATIVE FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE INTERSECTION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ETHICS. THE BOARD OF FHNS IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTEER. OUR PRIMARY EXPENSES ARE A POST OFFICE BOX, MAILING FEES AND TAX PREPARATION. WE MET TWICE DURING 2021 FOR FALL AND SPRING GRANTS, AND 1-2 TIMES REMOTELY TO ASSESS OUR ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND VISION. WE ARE FINANCIALLY IN A STRONG POSITION TO CONTINUE OUR MISSION IN THE COMING YEARS.
