THE MAINE WOMEN'S FUND MAKES BOLD INVESTMENTS THAT TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF MAINE WOMEN AND GIRLS BY INCUBATING AND INVESTING IN NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, PARTNERING WITH GRANTEES, AND CONNECTING PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS MAKING SOCIAL CHANGE.

THE MAINE WOMEN'S FUND WAS FOUNDED IN 1988 ON THE PRINCIPLE THAT WHEN WOMEN AND GIRLS THRIVE, THE WHOLE COMMUNITY PROSPERS. THE FUND TRANSFORMS THE LIVES OF MAINE WOMEN AND GIRLS THROUGH STRATEGIC GRANT MAKING, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS DEDICATED TO SOCIAL CHANGE. IT IS THE ONLY FOUNDATION IN MAINE FOCUSED EXCLUSIVELY ON INCREASING WOMENS AND GIRLS ECONOMIC SECURITY. WITH FINANCIAL SECURITY, WOMEN CAN ACCESS BETTER HOUSING, EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE AND EMPLOYMENT FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES WHILE ALSO CONTRIBUTING THEIR TALENTS AND LEADERSHIP FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THEIR COMMUNITIES.THE FUND PROVIES CRITICAL FUNDING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN MAINE WITHIN SIX STRATEGIC AREAS: EDUCATION; FINANCIAL SKILLS AND LITERACY; HEALTHCARE; LEADERSHIP; PERSONAL SAFETY; AND PUBLIC POLICY. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE FUND HAS INVESTED MORE THAN $2.7 MILLION IN 235 ORGANIZATIONS ADVANCING THE STATUS OF MAINE WOMEN AND GIRLS. IN ADDITION TO GRANT MAKING, THE FUND ANNUALLY ENGAGES HUNDREDS OF WOMEN ACROSS MAINE THROUGH ITS ACTIVE BOARD AND COMMITTEES, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES, AND SPECIAL EVENTS.
