FCT'S MISSION IS TO PROTECT, PRESERVE AND CONNECT OPEN SPACE LANDS AND PROVIDE PUBLIC ACCESS TO NATURAL AREAS IN FREEPORT, INCLUDING FORESTS, FARMLAND, SCENIC VISTAS, WILDLIFE HABITAT AND SHORELAND.

THE LAND PROTECTION PROGRAM IS A COMMUNITY BASED APPROACH WORKING WITH A VOLUNTEER LAND COMMITTEE AND STAFF USING A STRATEGIC APPROACH FOCUSED ON LANDS WITH THE HIGHEST ECOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. FCT WORKS WITH DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS, LANDOWNERS, MUNICIPALITIES, OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS TO ACHIEVE SUCCESSFUL OUTCOMES.


THE STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM IS DEDICATED TO THE PERPETUAL CARE OF THE PRESERVES AND EASEMENTS HELD BY FCT. THE PROGRAM IS LED BY STAFF AND A DEDICATED GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS THROUGH A ROBUST COMMITTEE AND FIELD WORK. THE PROGRAM MANAGES ALL ADMINISTRATION, OVERSIGHT AND PLANNING OF THESE PROPERTIES IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAND TRUST ALLIANCE STANDARDS & PRACTICES.


THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM IS CRUCIAL TO RAISING AWARENESS OF IMPORTANCE OF NATURE ALL AROUND AND AVAILABLE IN THIS COMMUNITY. THIS WORK IS CONDUCTED THROUGH THE ANNUAL TRAIL CHALLENGE PROGRAM, FIELD EVENTS, AND WORKSHOPS. THE LAND TRUST PROVIDES INFORMATION THROUGH OUR WEBSITE, EMAILS, PRINT NEWSLETTERS AND OTHER COMMUNICATION TOOLS. THIS PROGRAM CONTINUES TO BUILD SUPPORT AND INTEREST FROM THE COMMUNITY.
