WOODLAWN NURTURES CURIOSITY AND A SENSE OF PLACE BY PROMOTING DOWNEAST MAINE'S CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH EDUCATIONAL AND RECREATIONAL EXPERIENCES. UNDER THE GOVERNANCE OF THE HANCOCK COUNTY TRUSTEES OF PUBLIC RESERVATIONS, WOODLAWN OFFERS THE PEOPLE OF HANCOCK COUNTY AND BEYOND OPPORTUNITIES FOR RECREATION AND EDUCATION ON A 180 ACRE HISTORIC ESTATE CONSISTING OF A HISTORIC HOUSE, SEVERAL EXHIBIT BUILDINGS, A FORMAL GARDEN AND PUBLIC PARK. IN A NORMAL YEAR, WOODLAWN EXCEEDS 10,000 PERSON VISITS TO THE PARK EACH YEAR AND OVER 2500 PEOPLE TOUR THE MUSEUM. YEAR-ROUND RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE TWO MILES OF WALKING TRAILS WITH STORY TRAILS FOR CHILDREN. OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A COMMUNITY GARDEN, CROQUET TOURNAMENTS, FAMILY FIELD DAYS, AFTERNOON TEA, AND MUSICAL & THEATRICAL PERFORMANCES ON THE LAWN. IN WINTER, SLEDDING AND SKATING ARE POPULAR FREE ACTIVITIES WHEN THE WEATHER PERMITS. VISITORS ALSO ATTEND LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS AIMED TO ENTERTAIN AND INFORM ON TOPICS FROM HISTOR

PRESERVATION AND MAINTENANCE OF HISTORIC FACILITIES FOR THE ENRICHMENT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IN 2021, AS THE COVID-19 RESTRICTION BEGAN TO EASE, THE WOODLAWN GROUNDS CONTINUED TO BE USED DAILY BY THOUSANDS OF VISITORS AND CROQUET TOURNAMENTS WERE HELD. THE MUSEUM WAS ABLE TO RETURN TO LIMITED SUMMER OPERATIONS WITH THE HISTORIC HOUSE OPEN FOR TOURS BY RESERVATION IN JUNE, JULY AND AUGUST. FAMILIES ENJOYED A FALL FESTIVAL OF SAFE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. OTHER COMMUNITY NONPROFITS AGAIN UTILIZED WOODLAWN PROPERTY FOR THEIR PROGRAMS. A NEW PERMANENT EXHIBITION OPENED IN THE CARRIAGE BARN OUTBUILDING.
