TO HOLD TOGETHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE PASADENA PLAYHOUSE AND ITS COLLEGE, ENCOURAGE AN INTEREST IN THEATER EDUCATION, STIMULATE CREATIVITY IN THE THEATER, ASSIST THEATER ARTS STUDENTS (INCLUDING SCHOLARSHIPS), AND SUPPORT THE PLAYHOUSE IN AREAS SUCH AS ARCHIVES, LIBRARY, AND OPERATING FUNDS.

SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO FIVE COLLEGE STUDENTS THAT ALLOWED THESE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH LIMITED FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO GAIN TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE IN ALL AREAS OF PROFESSIONAL THEATER. RECIPIENT SELECTIONS ARE MADE ANNUALLY BASED ON DETAILED APPLICATIONS THAT ARE REVIEWED BY A SUBCOMMITTEE OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS. IN 2016, $5,000 SCHOLARSHIPS WERE MADE TO STUDENTS AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY FULLERTON, CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY IN ORANGE, AND THE CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF THE ARTS. THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND WAS ESTABLISHED SEVERAL YEARS AGO WITH AN ENDOWMENT FROM THE HENRY SUMID ESTATE. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ARE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOLS IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE MONIES ARE USED TO PAY FOR SCHOOL EXPENSES.
AS PART OF ITS WORK TO KEEP THE PASADENA PLAYHOUSE COLLEGE OF THEATRE ARTS ALIVE IN THE HISTORY OF THE PASADENA PLAYHOUSE, WE MAINTAIN A WEBSITE AND MAIL NEWSLETTERS PERIODICALLY TO ALL MEMBERS THAT PROVIDE INFORMATION ON BOTH PLAYHOUSE AND ALUMNI ACTIVITIES. IN ADDITION, SEVERAL OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS AND ALSO VOLUNTEERS HELP TO MAINTAIN BOTH PLAYHOUSE AND SCHOOL ARCHIVES, PROVIDING INFORMATION FOR SEVERAL PUBLIC QUERIES FOR SUCH INFORMATION EACH MONTH. WEBSITE AND NEWSLETTER ARE BOTH PREPARED AND MAILED BY OUR VOLUNTEERS.
