EDUCATING ETHICAL AND PROFICIENT CHRISTIAN HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AND SCHOLARS THROUGH INSTRUCTION, EXAMPLE, AND THE PURSUIT OF TRUTH; EXPANDING KNOWLEDGE THROUGH RESEARCH IN THE BIOLOGICAL, BEHAVIORAL, PHYSICAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES AND APPLYING THIS KNOWLEDGE TO HEALTH AND DISEASE; PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE, COMPETENT, AND COMPASSIONATE HEALTH CARE FOR THE WHOLE PERSON THROUGH FACULTY, STUDENTS, AND ALUMNI.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE OPENED IN 1909. IT HAS BEEN ACCREDITED SINCE THE 1920S AND IS A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL SCHOOLS. THE SCHOOL TRAINS SKILLED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS WITH A COMMITMENT TO CHRISTIAN SERVICE AND MANY OF THE 210 GRADUATES HAVE SPENT A YEAR OR MORE IN OVERSEAS MISSION SERVICE. MOST MEDICAL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS THAT DELIVER MEDICAL CARE TO LOWER INCOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE LITTLE ACCESS TO BASIC MEDICAL CARE. ONE QUARTER OF THE PHYSICIANS IN CALIFORNIA'S "INLAND EMPIRE" ARE GRADUATES OF THE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. DURING THE YEAR THE SCHOOL AWARDED THE FOLLOWING DEGREES: MD 173, PHD 10, MS 30.


THE SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY TRAINS STUDENTS IN THE DENTAL SCIENCES TO SERVE IN VARIOUS SETTINGS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. DURING THE YEAR STUDENTS RECEIVED DEGREES IN DENTISTRY, DENTAL HYGIENE AND THE INTERNATIONAL DENTIST AND EIGHT POST GRADUATE PROGRAMS. THERE WERE MORE THAN 90,000 PATIENT VISITS IN VARIOUS CLINICS WHERE STUDENTS HONE THEIR CLINICAL SKILLS AND PREPARE FOR BOARD EXAMINATIONS. STUDENTS VOLUNTEER FOR SERVICE IN MOBILE CLINICS, HEALTH FAIRS, AND COMMUNITY CLINICS. DENTAL FACULTY ARE ACTIVE IN ADVANCING KNOWLEDGE THROUGH INTERNATIONAL LECTURES.


SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS PREPARES GRADUATES TO BE EMPLOYEES OF CHOICE FOR PREMIER ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE WORLD BY PROVIDING THEM WITH PRACTICAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH THOSE OPEN TO SHARING OUR VISION. SINCE 1966 THE SCHOOL HAS BEEN TRAINING HIGHLY SKILLED AND DEDICATED HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IN MANY FIELDS. WHATEVER THEIR SPECIALTY, GRADUATES ENJOY JOB SECURITY, GOOD PAYING WAGES, AND THE PLEASURES OF A PERSONALLY REWARDING CAREER. THE SCHOOL OFFERS OVER FIFTY SPECIALIZED HEALTH CARE DEGREE OPTIONS IN THE FIELDS OF CARDIOPULMONARY SCIENCES, CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES, COMMUNICATION SCIENCES AND DISORDERS, HEALTH INFOMATICS AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION, NUTRITION AND DIETETICS, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, ORTHOTICS AND PROSTHETICS, PHYSICAL THERAPY, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT SCIENCES, AND RADIATION TECHNOLOGY. DURING THE YEAR THE SCHOOL AWARDED THE FOLLOWING DEGREES: CERT/POST SECONDARY-27, ASSOCIATE-89, BACCALAUREATE-135, MASTER-166, DOCTORATE-141.


LLU ALSO OPERATES SCHOOLS OF BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, NURSING, PUBLIC HEALTH, PHARMACY AND RELIGION. OUR INTEGRATED FOUNDATION DIVISION MANAGES OUR TRUST AND ENDOWMENT PORTFOLIOS, AND REAL ESTATES AND RETAIL SERVICES (SUCH AS THE BOOK STORE AND MARKET). SUPPORTING SERVICES OPERATED BY LLU INCLUDE STUDENT SERVICES ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, ATHLETIC FACILITIES, FOOD SERVICES, GENERAL AND FINANCIAL ADMINISTRATION, INFORMATION SYSTEMS, CO-GENERATION FACILITY AND MAINTENANCE.
