SNOW LEOPARD CONSERVATION, POLICY AND COOPERATION: OUR TEAMS WORKED WITH 153 LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO IMPLEMENT CONSERVATION PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORTED RURAL PEOPLE WITH LIVELIHOOD AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT, WHILE SECURING THEIR SUPPORT TO PROTECT SNOW LEOPARDS, THEIR PREY AND HABITATS. OUR PARTNER COMMUNITIES, INCLUDING 11,900 FAMILIES, CONTINUED TO PROTECT SNOW LEOPARDS OVER APPROXIMATELY 83,000 SQ. KM+. LIVELIHOODS RELATED WORK INCLUDED EFFORTS IN PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE CASHMERE ECONOMY, DAIRY PROCESSING AND MARKETING, SUSTAINABLE TOURISM, BEE-KEEPING AND FRUIT ORCHARD PLANTING. CONFLICT MANAGEMENT WORK INCLUDED BUILDING OF CORRALS, SUPPORTING COMMUNITY-MANAGED LIVESTOCK INSURANCE PROGRAMS AND (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)PRODUCING CONSERVATION LINKED HANDICRAFTS. WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE 12-NATION INTERGOVERNMENTAL ALLIANCE TO PROMOTE SNOW LEOPARD CONSERVATION AND ENSURE BETTER POLICIES. WE CONDUCTED A STEERING MEETING OF THIS ALLIANCE, CALLED GLOBAL SNOW LEOPARD AND ECOSYSTEM PROTECTION PROGRAM, VIRTUALLY. WE CONTINUED TO SUPPORT THE MANAGEMENT OF A PROTECTED AREA AND THREE FORMER HUNTING CONCESSIONS.


SNOW LEOPARD RESEARCH, MONITORING AND CONSERVATION CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT: OUR CAMERA TRAPPING BASED RESEARCH AND MONITORING WAS CONDUCTED IN AT LEAST 5 IMPORTANT SNOW LEOPARD HABITATS. WE PUBLISHED 16 PAPERS DURING THE 2021 YEAR IN INTERNATIONAL PEER REVIEWED JOURNALS. 3 RESEARCHERS ASSOCIATED WITH OUR WORK COMPLETED THEIR PHDS SUCCESSFULLY. WE CONDUCTED MULTIPLE TRAININGS PROGRAMS LARGELY USING ONLINE PLATFORMS. 88 CONSERVATION PRACTITIONERS FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES WERE TRAINED IN COMMUNITY-BASED CONSERVATION, WHILE 22 RECEIVED TRAINING IN SNOW LEOPARD POPULATION ASSESSMENT PROTOCOLS.


EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: USING IN PERSON ACTIVITIES AND ONLINE PLATFORMS, WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH MORE THAN 813 CHILDREN IN SNOW LEOPARD HABITATS TO PROMOTE CONSERVATION EDUCATION AND AWARENESS. WE WERE ALSO ABLE TO COMPLETE CONSERVATION TRAINING FOR 9 TEACHERS. IN ADDITION, 2334 OF OUR LOCALLY PRODUCED AND CUSTOMISED NEWSLETTERS REACHED HUNDREDS OF STAKEHOLDERS, ESPECIALLY LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS. IN 2021, WE CELEBRATED OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY BY LAUNCHING AN ANNUAL GLOBAL EVENT CALLED STRIDES FOR SNOW LEOPARDS WHICH IN THIS INAUGURAL YEAR BROUGHT TOGETHER OVER 700 SUPPORTERS FROM 52 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES TO HELP RAISE AWARENESS FOR SNOW LEOPARD CONSERVATION.
