TANNERY WORLD DANCE & CULTURAL CENTER (TWDCC) FACILITATES A WORKING HOME FOR PROFESSIONAL WORLD & CONTEMPORARY DANCE ARTISTS, WHILE PROVIDING DANCE EDUCATION THAT IS COMMITTED TO ACCESS, EQUITY AND EXCELLENCE.

TWDCC PROVIDES A DANCE AND CULTURAL CENTER THAT OPERATES THROUGH THREE LEAD PROGRAMS: YOUTH PROGRAM, ADULT PROGRAM, AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION. THROUGHT EACH OF THESE PROGRAMS WE PROVIDE A WORKING HOME FOR PROFESSIONAL WORLD AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE ARTISTS AND AFFORDABLE AND EQUITABLE DANCE EDUCATION AND CULTURAL SPACE FOR SANTA CRUZ COUNTY RESIDENTS. OUR YOUTH PROGRAM SUPPORTS DANCE EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN AGES 3-18 YEARS. TWDCC HAS FOUR YOUTH DANCE COMPANIES THAT ARE BUILT ON THE FOUNDATION OF TRAINING, LEADERSHIP AND DISCIPLINE. THIS YEAR WE PROVIDED 35 FULL DANCE SCHOLARSHIPS TO UNDERSERVED STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY WORTH APPROXIMATELY $52,000. THE TWDCC YOUTH PROGRAM SERVES ABOUT 269 STUDENTS EACH WEEK AND PROVIDES A DANCE AND CULTURAL CENTER THAT HAS BECOME A SECOND HOME TO MANY.2021 CONTINUED TO BE CHALLENGING TO TWDCC STAFF, STUDENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY BECAUSE OF COVID-19. TWDCC CONTINUED TO PROVIDE ONLINE CLASSES AND CONTENT TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS CONNECTED AND ENGAGED. LATER IN THE YEAR, WE RESUMED IN-PERSON YOUTH CLASSES WHEN COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT GUIDELINES PERMITTED. WE UTILIZED OUR CONNECTIONS WITH DANCE INSTRUCTORS ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES TO PROVIDE SOME OF OUR ONLINE PROGRAMMING TO STUDENTS. DURING 2021 TWDCC PROVIDED COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT THROUGH VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING AND COMMUNITY-WIDE OUTREACH OF ARTS AND CULTURAL PROGRAMMING THROUGH WORK WITH SANTA CRUZ COUNTY. COMMUNITY PROJECTS CENTERED ON COMMUNITY SUPPORT: CLASSES AND PERFORMANCES FOR SENIOR AND AT-RISK POPULATIONS, AND PUBLICLY AVAILABLE OUTDOOR DANCE AND MOVEMENT CLASSES IN PARKS THROUGHOUT SANTA CRUZ COUNTY. TOWARDS THE END OF THE YEAR, WE WERE ONCE AGAIN ABLE TO OFFER OUR SPACE AS A VENUE FOR WEEKLY CLASSES FOR ADULTS OFFERED BY OUR DIASPORA PERFORMANCE PROJECT RESIDENT ARTISTS.SANTA CRUZ COUNTY BLACK HEALTH MATTERS INITIATIVE WAS ESTABLISHED BY TWDCC IN 2020. IN 2021 WE CONTINUED TO PROVIDE COVID-19 RELATED INFORMATION TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY, WHICH INCLUDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO RECEIVE VACCINE AND RELATED HEALTH SERVICES THROUGH THE COUNTY. SCC BLACK HEALTH MATTERS INITIATIVE SERVICES ADDRESS MENTAL HEALTH, ISOLATION AND RACISM AND WE SERVE A DIVERSE COMMUNITY, MANY OF WHOM ARE IMMIGRANTS AND SPEAK ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE. OUR PROGRAMS CONTRIBUTE TO A HEALTHY QUALITY OF LIFE FOR BIPOC ARTISTS, FAMILIES, STUDENTS AND LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS.
