TO DELIVER LIFE-CHANGING SERVICES TO HOMELESS, RUNAWAY, AND IN-CRISIS YOUTH IN NORTHERN NM.

THE YOUTH EMERGENCY SHELTER IS A 24-HOUR SAFE HAVEN FOR YOUTH IN CRISIS, AGES 10-17, WHERE THEY CAN SLEEP IN A STABLE ENVIRONMENT, EAT THREE NUTRITIOUS MEALS A DAY, OBTAIN CLOTHING, RECEIVE COUNSELING AND SUPPORT, AND ACCESS A FULL RANGE OF SERVICES. THE SHELTER SERVED 69 YOUTH, PROVIDED 1,261 NIGHTS OF SHELTER, AND PROVIDED 3251 CASE MANAGEMENT AND LIFE SKILLS EDUCATION HOURS.


HOMELESS YOUTH PROGRAM (HYP) PROVIDES HOUSING FOR YOUTH FOR A LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME WHILE THEY LEARN LIFE SKILLS, GAIN EDUCATION, AND ACCESS EMPLOYMENT SO THAT THEY CAN BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT. HYP CONSISTS OF TRANSITIONAL LIVING AND RAPID REHOUSING. TRANSITIONAL LIVING IS A SUPERVISED APARTMENT SETTING FOR HOMELESS YOUTH INCLUDING PREGNANT AND PARENTING TEENS. THE RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAMS HELPS INDEPENDENT YOUTH FIND AND MOVE INTO THEIR OWN APARTMENTS AROUND SANTA FE FOR UP TO TWO YEARS, AGES 17-24. HYP SERVED 186 YOUTH AND THEIR DEPENDENT CHILDREN. 42,439 NIGHTS OF HOUSING WERE PROVIDED, 3,429 CASE MANAGEMENT AND LIFE SKILLS HOURS DELIVERED.


THE STREET OUTREACH, DROP-IN CENTER, AND COLD WEATHER SHELTER PROGRAMS PROVIDE CRITICAL SERVICES SUCH AS FOOD, WATER, WINTER SHELTER, BLANKETS, AND SLEEPING BAGS FOR YOUTH AGES 21 AND UNDER WITH NOWHERE TO GO. MANY CAMP IN THE MOUNTAINS, LIVE IN CARS, OR SLEEP IN ABANDONED BUILDINGS. THE DROP- IN CENTER PROVIDES A PLACE WHERE YOUTH GO TO GET WARM, TAKE A SHOWER, AND RECEIVE THE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES THEY NEED TO LEAVE THE STREETS. THE COLD WEATHER SHELTER PROVIDES CRITICAL OVERNIGHT SHELTER DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. THE PROGRAM SERVED 243 YOUTH. 371 NIGHTS OF SHELTER WERE PROVIDED, 3,844 SURVIVAL ITEMS DISTRIBUTED, AND 2,968 CASE MANAGEMENT HOURS DELIVERED.


THE PREGNANT AND PARENTING YOUTH INITIATIVE PROVIDES SAFETY, STABILITY AND WELLNESS FOR YOUNG FAMILIES,INCLUDING PREGNANT AND PARENTING TEENS. CASE COORDINATORS WORK TO CONNECT FAMILIES WITH PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL CARE, CHILDCARE RESOURCES, PARENTING CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS, AND PREGNANCY PREVENTION. 37 YOUTH AND CHILDREN WERE SERVED AND 216 INTERVENTIONS PROVIDED, INCLUDING CLOTHING, BABY FORMULA,DIAPERS, MEDICAL REFERRALS, PARENT EDUCATION CLASSES, AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH INSTRUCTION. THE COMMUNITY COUNSELING CENTER OFFERS PROFESSIONAL COUNSELING FOR YOUTH IN EVERY PROGRAM, THEIR FAMILIES,AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. MANY ARE HOMELESS, AT RISK FOR BECOMING HOMELESS, OR ARE OTHERWISE IN CRISIS. 100 CLIENTS SERVED AND 756 HOURS OF COUNSELING PROVIDED. YOUTH SHELTERS AND FAMILY SERVICES ALSO OFFERS LGBTQ+ YOUTH SUPPORTIVE CASE MANAGEMENT AND PREVENTION AND DIVERSION SERVICES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE UP TO AGE 25 WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE BECOME HOMELESS.
