THE POP-UP PROJECT'S MISSION IS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO THE PERFORMING ARTS AND TO GENERATE FAIR WAGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS.

IMMERSIVE EVENTS - ROMEO Y JULIETA ROMEO Y JULIETA WAS A FULL-LENGTH, IMMERSIVE DANCE PRODUCTION IN COLLABORATION WITH STOVE WORKS AS A PRODUCING PARTNER. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED WAGES FOR OVER 25 ARTISTS IN OUR AREA. OVER THE COURSE OF 3 SHOWS, WE HAD MORE THAN 1000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS, AND FOR THE FINAL SHOWING, AFTER WORD STARTED GETTING OUT, WE HAD TO TURN MANY PEOPLE AWAY. THE SHOW WAS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, AND PULLED IN AN ETHNICALLY DIVERSE CROWD.


YOUTH FILM INTENSIVE IN JULY, WE PILOTED A YOUTH DANCE FILM INTENSIVE. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED A SELECT GROUP OF STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE TWO WEEKS OF WORLD-CLASS DANCE TRAINING, LESSONS IN FILM WRITING AND ANALYSIS, AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO WRITE AND CHOREOGRAPH THEIR OWN SITE-SPECIFIC DANCE FILM. THERE WERE FIVE PARTICIPANTS AND THE FILM WAS RELEASED ONLINE AND HAS RECEIVED 351 VIEWS TO DATE.


THE POP-UP STREET TEAM - COMMISSIONS THIS PROGRAM IS NOW FIVE YEARS OLD AND WELL-ESTABLISHED. OVER THE SUMMER, WE SENT DANCERS TO 12 DIFFERENT EVENTS ALL OVER THE CITY. IN OCTOBER, WE HAD 5 EVENTS THAT RANGED FROM A PERFORMANCE AT THE RIVER MARKET, A BUSY LOCAL MARKET AND EVENTS VENUE, AND SHAKESPEARE DAY AT A LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL. THIS PROGRAM ALLOWS US TO PUT DANCE INTO THE SERVICE OF EVENT PRODUCERS, PARTY PLANNERS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS, ETC. IT TAKES DANCE TO THE PEOPLE WHILE PROVIDING REGULAR, PAID OPPORTUNITIES FOR DANCERS. JUST OVER THE SUMMER, THE PROGRAM GENERATED MORE THAN $20,000, OF WHICH $16,300 WAS PAID DIRECTLY TO LOCAL ARTISTS.


THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED VARIOUS DANCE CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS IN 2021, AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF SMALLER DANCE SHOWS.
