RESTORE, MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE THE FARMHOUSE, GROUNDS AND OTHER FACILITIES AT LACHAT TOWN FARM, A MUNICIPAL PROPERTY LOCATED IN THE TOWN OF WESTON, CT. THE ORGANIZATION OFFERS PROGRAMS THAT FACILITATE EDUCATION AND ENJOYMENT OF LACHAT TOWN FARM BY THE COMMUNITIES OF WESTON, CT AND SURROUNDING TOWNS.

OFFUTT EDUCATION CENTER : THE ORGANIZATION MADE SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS FOR THE PLANNING, DESIGN AND APPROVALS TO PERMIT CONSTRUCTION OF THE OFFUTT EDUCATION CENTER. THE NEW CENTER WILL REPLACE THE CURRENT GARAGE AND ENABLE YEAR ROUND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING, INCLUDING THE ADDITION OF A DEMONSTRATION KITCHEN AND ART STUDIO FOR CLASSES. ARCHITECTURAL, ENGINEERING, ENVIRONMENTAL AND LEGAL FIRMS WERE RETAINED FOR THE DESIGN AND REQUIRED MUNICIPAL LAND USE APPROVALS. ALL THE NECESSARY LAND USE APPROVALS WERE OBTAINED AND THE EXPECTATION IS THAT CONSTRUCTION WILL BEGIN IN 2022.
FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS AND MAINTENANCE: THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO MAKE MEANINGFUL EXPENDITURES TO MAINTAIN AND IMPROVE THE LACHAT TOWN FARM. A NEW MODULAR STAGE WAS ACQUIRED FOR MUSICAL AND OTHER EVENTS. A NEW FARM UTILITY VEHICLE ACQUIRED FOR THE LACHAT TOWN FARM. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED TO SPEND FUNDS ON LANDSCAPING, FARMHOUSE MAINTENANCE, UTILITIES AND REPAIRS, SEPTIC REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE, AND GENERAL FARM MAINTENANCE.
CLASSES AND OTHER EVENTS: THE ORGANIZATION OFFERED A BROAD VARIETY OF OVER 20 CLASSES AND OTHER EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE CLASSES INCLUDED BASIC GARDENING, COMPOSTING, BIRDS/BEES AND BUTTERFLIES, GOAT EDUCATION, IKEBANA, WINTER SOWING AS WELL AS YOGA, TAI CHI AND MEDITATION. CERTAIN EVENTS FOCUSED ON EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE THEMES, INCLUDING MLK DAY, INTERNATIONAL DAY, WOMEN;S SUFFRAGE TEA AND A FOCUS ON VETERANS ON JULY 4TH. ADDITIONAL EVENTS PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES TO ENJOY LACHAT TOWN FARM, INCLUDING A SPRING EGG HUNT AND A CANDY CANE HUNT. EACH CLASS ATTRACTED APPROXIMATE 20 PERSONS, WHILE THE OTHER EVENTS ATTRACTED APPROXIMATELY 100 TO 125 COMMUNITY MEMBERS EACH.
