THE LANA`I CULTURE AND HERITAGE CENTER SPONSORS VARIOUS PROGRAMS FOR THE COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR THAT SEEK TO EDUCATE AND CULTIVATE INTEREST AND KNOWLEDGE IN THE HISTORY, FOLKLORE, CULTURE, CUSTOMS, AND PRACTICES OF LANAI. IDENTIFY AND RECOMMEND CULTURAL AND NATURAL LANDSCAPES AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES OF HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE AND INTEREST TO LANAI FOR PRESERVATION, AND TO DETERMINE LEVELS OF ACCESS AND INTERPRETATION. STUDY AND PROMOTE AWARENESS OF THE UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT AND ECOSYSTEMS OF LANAI. THE LANA'I CULTURE & HERITAGE CENTER ALSO SEEKS TO INSPIRE PEOPLE TO BE INFORMED, THOUGHTFUL, AND ACTIVE STEWARDS OF THEIR HERITAGE BY PRESERVING, INTERPRETING AND CELEBRATING LANA'I'S HAWAIIAN HERITAGE, ITS DIVERSE CULTURES, AND RANCHING AND PLANTATION ERA HISTORIES. DURING THE YEAR THE CENTER'S FOCUS WAS ON THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS: ANNUAL SUMMER CULTURAL LITERACY PROGRAM CALLED - E `IKE HOU IA LANA`I. THE PROGRAM TEACHES STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST SO THAT THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO BUILDING AN ISLAND THAT IS HEALTHY, A HISTORY THAT IS HONORED, AND A COMMUNITY THAT THRIVES FOR GENERATIONS TO COME. LANA`I COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM IS PART OF KUAHIWA A KAI, AN INITIATIVE TO RESTORE HEALTH TO THE KEOMOKU REGION OF LANA`I. ONGOING ENHANCEMENTS TO A FREE EDUCATIONAL LANA`I GUIDE APP. DEVELOPED IN 2016, THE LANA`I GUIDE APP SERVES AS A FREE, COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE RESOURCE FOR STUDENTS, LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS, VISITORS, AND THOSE WHO SIMPLY WISH TO GAIN MORE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE ISLAND. THE APP FEATURES SIGNIFICANT CULTURAL AND HISTORIC SITES ON LANA`I, INCLUDING STORIED PLACES AS WAIA`OPAE FISHPOND, KAUNOLU HERITAGE COMPLEX, AND HI`I AGRICULTURAL HEIAU IN ADDITION, THE LANA'I CULTURE & HERITAGE CENTER, SUPPORTS AND OPERATES A COMMUNITY MUSEUM.
