TO PROMOTE PRESERVATION, EDUCATION, ARCHAEOLOGY, & RESEARCH OF AFRICAN DIASPORA HISTORY FOCUSING ON THE PERIOD OF ENSLAVEMENT & POST-SLAVERY ERA IN THE GULF COAST REGION OF TEXAS & ITS CONNECTIONS TO OTHER REGIONS IN THE WORLD.

PRESERVATION, STABILIZATION, PLANNING & RESTORATION OF NATIONAL REGISTER-LISTED HISTORIC HOUSES FOR FUTURE USE AS MUSEUM HOUSES & ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL LAB AS FOLLOWS: JACOB NICHOLSON HOUSE: REPAIR & REPLACE DAMAGED & MISSING SIDING & EXTERIOR TRIM. REPLACE DAMAGED ROOF WITH HISTORICALLY-APPROPRIATE BERRIDGE METAL-SHINGLE ROOF. J. VANCE LEWIS HOUSE: INSTALL EXTENSIVE NEW STRUCTURAL SUPPORT ROOF RAFTERS & BEAMS, REPLACED WATER DAMAGED FRAMING IN ATTIC PER STRUCTURAL ENGINEER'S PLANS, IN PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION OF NEW ROOF. REPAIR DAMAGED FLOOR JOISTS AT REAR PORCH. WORK WITH CONTRACTORS & STRUCTURAL ENGINEER TO PLAN & INSTALL ADDITIONAL CONCRETE PIERS AND BEAMS. ISABELLE SIMS HOUSE: ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES PROVIDED. INSTALL DURABLE REEF INDUSTRIES TARP OVER ENTIRE ROOF TO PRESERVE STRUCTURE & PREVENT WATER INGRESS. UP FRONT PORCH.


TWO HISTORIC SITES OWNED BY RBHYATES MUSEUM WAS AWARDED "SITES OF MEMORY ASSOCIATED TO THE UNESCO-SLAVE ROUTE IN MARCH 2019. IN 2021, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE RESEARCH HISTORIAN, AND THE ARCHAEOLOGIST/CURATOR, SEVERAL PAID UNIVERSITY ARCHAEOLOGY & HISTORY STUDENT INTERNS, NEW RESEARCH DATA WAS ADDED TO SEVERAL OF THE ORIGINAL 74 UNESCO NOMINATIONS UNDER CONSIDERATION. THE PROPERTIES ARE WITHIN THE NATIONAL REGISTER HISTORIC DISTRICT OF FREEDMEN'S TOWN & THE RELATED SITES FROM TEXAS TO MEXICO.


LONE STAR COLLEGE CONDUCTED A SUMMER SEMESTER OF ARCHAEOLOGY FIELD COURSES ON ONE OF RBHYATES HISTORIC SITES. THERE WAS ALSO A PODCAST CREATED ON THE J. VANCE LEWIS HOUSE.
