SUNSHINE SCHOOL & DEVELOPMENT CENTER PROVIDES HIGH-QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN 12 MONTHS THROUGH 6 YEARS OF AGE TO BOTH CHILDREN WHO QUALIFY FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION AND THOSE WHO ARE "TYPICALLY" DEVELOPING. EDUCATION PROGRAMING PROVIDES A WIDE RANGE OF EXPERIENCES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN A NURTURING, STIMULATING AND EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT BY FOCUSING ON EACH CHILD'S INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS WHILE PROMOTING HIS/HER PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE, SELF-HELP, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL AND COMMUNICATION DEVELOPMENT. THERAPY SERVICES PRESCRIBED BY PHYSICIANS TO CHILDREN FROM BIRTH TO 21 YEARS OF AGE ARE ALSO OFFERED, INCLUDING SPEECH-LANGUAGE, OCCUPATIONAL, PHYSICAL AND BEHAVIORAL AND MENTAL HEALTH THERAPEUTIC SERVICES. THERAPIES MAY INCLUDE EVALUATIONS, SKILLED INTERVENTION PLANS, INTERVENTION SERVICES, ONGOING EVALUATIONS OF PROGRESS, ONGOING COMMUNICATION WITH MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS, USE OF SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT, PARENT/FAMILY EDUCATION AND CONSULTATIONS.


SUPPORTIVE LIVING IS AN ARRAY OF INDIVIDUALLY TAILORED SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES PROVIDED TO ENABLE ELIGIBLE BENEFICIARIES TO RESIDE SUCCESSFULLY IN THEIR OWN HOMES, WITH THEIR FAMILY, OR IN AN ALTERNATIVE LIVING SETTING. ONE-ON-ONE DIRECT CARE PERSONNEL PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT IN AREAS OF MEAL PLANNING AND PREPARATION, LAUNDRY, PERSONAL CARE, HEALTH AND SAFETY, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, SELF-DIRECTION, SELF-CARE, MOBILITY, AND LEARNING. SIX TIMES A YEAR WE TAKE 15 CLIENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS TO SUCH PLACES AS ROARING RIVER, EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS BAPTIST ASSEMBLY AND MOUNT SEQUOYAH WHERE THEY FISH, SWIM, GO ON HAYRIDES AND HIKES, AND FIND THEIR CREATIVE SIDE BY DOING CRAFTS. THE RETREATERS' FAMILY ENJOY THE BREAK THEY HAVE FROM WHAT IS OFTEN 24-HOUR CARE. IT GIVES THEM RELIEF KNOWING THEIR LOVED ONE IS IN THE VERY CAPABLE HANDS OF THE RETREAT STAFF.
