THE MISSION OF THE SACRAMENTO BLACK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS TO ASSURE MEMBER BUSINESSES WILL BENEFIT THROUGH SERVICES THAT SUSTAIN AND INCREASE THEIR REVENUE. ADDITIONALLY, THE REGION WILL BENEFIT THROUGH THE GROWTH OF AFRICAN AMERICAN OWNED BUSINESSES.

THE LARGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THE SACRAMENTO BLACK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN 2021 WAS BY FAR THE PURCHASE OF A 1.5 MILLION DOLLAR BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. THE BUILDING IS 4,000 SQUARE FEET WITH SEVEN SEPARATE OFFICES. THERE IS A LARGE ROOM THAT WILL BE USED FOR TRAININGS AND WORKSHOPS AND A SHARED WORKSPACE FOR MEMBERS OF THE CHAMBER NEEDING TEMPORARY WORKSPACE. A PORTION OF THAT SPACE WILL BE UTILIZED AS AN INCUBATOR FOR EMERGING BUSINESSES. THE CONFERENCE ROOM WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS NEEDING MEETING SPACE.BOARD DEVELOPMENTWITH THE STRATEGIC INTENTION OF BOARD DEVELOPMENT, THE BOARD IS COMPRISED OF TWELVE WELL CONNECTED BUSINESSES, TWENTY PERCENT OF THEM SMALL BUSINESSES, WHO CONTINUE TO BE TOTALLY COMMITTED TO THE SBCC AND THE MEMBERS WE SERVE. WITH GUIDANCE OF STAFF, THE BOARD HAS REMAINED IN COMPLIANCE WITH 100% OF THE POLICIES ITS APPROVED OVER THE YEAR. THE BOARD WENT THROUGH SERIOUS STRATEGIC PLANNING IN 2021 AND HAVE AGREED TO TAKE THE LEAP INTO PROVIDING TRAINING AND RECRUITMENT OF MEMBERS, BOARD AND OTHER COLLABORATIONS AROUND THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA THAT ALIGN WITH THE NEWLY MINTED GOALS OF FOCUS ON ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. TO THAT END WE HAVE IN EARNEST BEGAN THE IDENTIFICATION OF INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT THE STATE THAT CAN SUPPORT THIS NEW ALIGNMENT.STAFF DEVELOPMENTTHE SBCC, THE CHAMBER AND FOUNDATION IS STAFFED SUFFICIENTLY WITH EXPERIENCED AND EQUALLY IMPORTANT COMMITTED INDIVIDUALS WHO WANT TO SEE THE CHAMBER REACH ITS HIGHEST LEVEL OF PROFICIENCY IN SERVING THE NOW OVER 400 MEMBERS.A NEW CRM SYSTEM HAS BEEN PURCHASED ALLOWING FOR BETTER MANAGEMENT OF MEMBERSHIP AND ACCOUNTING.WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TWO CONTRACTORS, ALL PRIOR OUTSOURCED WORK HAS BEEN BROUGHT IN HOUSE. WE WILL CONTINUE TO OUTSOURCE SOME CONSULTING SERVICES, NAMELY PROPOSAL WRITING AND BUSINESS/ACCOUNTING SERVICES NOW PROVIDED BY LEE AND SAKAI, BUT ALL ELSE WILL HAPPEN IN HOUSE WITH ALL STAFF PREPARED TO WORK TOGETHER TO ASSURE NOTHING BUT EXCELLENCE LEAVES THE OFFICE. POSITIONS FILLED IN 2021/22 INCLUDE: MARKETING/COMMUNICATIONS, PROGRAM COORDINATOR, OPERATIONS MANAGER, AND A MEMBERSHIP MANAGER.OPERATIONSEMPLOYEE MANUAL AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE UPDATES HAVE BEEN ONGOING THIS YEAR.ONBOARDING OF NEW STAFF CONTINUES.THE SBCC GAVE AWAY OVER $10,000 DOLLARS IN YLC SCHOLARSHIPS AND WILL GIVE $75,000 THROUGH THE SMALL BUSINESS INCUBATOR PROGRAM AND CONSULTANCY SERVICES TO MEMBERS OF THE SBCC.A RETIREMENT PLAN FOR STAFF HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED.MEMBERSHIP/BENEFITSMEMBERSHIP CONTINUES TO INCREASE AS A RESULT OF OUR ABILITY TO REACH A WIDER AUDIENCE THROUGH OUR LARGER PRESENCE THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA OUTREACH. WE ARE REACHING A LARGER AUDIENCE THROUGH OUR FACEBOOK 916 LIVE SHOW AIRING EVERY SECOND TUESDAY OF THE MONTH AT NOON. WEVE INVOLVED BOARD MEMBERS INTERESTED IN HOSTING THESE SHOWS.WE PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY TO OUR MEMBERS TO SHOWCASE THEIR BUSINESSES NOT ONLY ON 916 LIVE BUT ALSO ON CHANNEL 10S MORNING SHOW, YOUR CALIFORNIA LIFE OR YCL. THEY ARE ALSO SHOWCASED ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, ON OUR WEBSITE AND IN OUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTER.COLLABORATIONSWE CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN OUR COLLABORATIONS WITH THE ASIAN, HISPANIC AND RAINBOW CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND BY JOINING IEDC (INCLUSIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COLLABORATION). WEVE SIGNED AN MOU TO BRING THE CHAMBER AT LEAST $150,000 IN 2022 FOR BUSINESS CONSULTATION, OUTREACH AND EDUCATION. CITY OF SACRAMENTOWE ENDED OUR OFFICE LEASE WITH THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO IN JUNE 2022 AND WILL MOVE INTO THE BUILDING WE PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2021 ON JULY 1ST 2022. OUR FUTUREWE CONTINUE WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROGRAMMING FOR OUR MEMBERS, BUT ARE ALSO FOCUSED ON SUCCESSION PLANNING. THE NEXT POSITION THAT WE LOOK TO FULFILL (2023/24) WILL BE A DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT.
