THE MISSION OF THE CIRCUS ARTS CONSERVATORY IS TO ENGAGE AND EDUCATE CHILDREN USING UNIQUE AND INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROGRAMS; TO MEASURABLY IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR INDIVIDUALS IN CARE FACILITIES; AND TO ADVANCE THE EXTRAORDINARY LEGACY AND HERITAGE OF THE CIRCUS.

PERFORMANCE: THROUGH PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTIONS, CAC CONTINUES TO ELEVATE THE ART OF CIRCUS, SHOWCASING WORLD-CLASS PERFORMERS AND ATHLETES. OVER 1 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE ATTENDED A CAC PERFORMANCE IN A MOBILE, EUROPEAN STYLE BIG TOP TENT AND AT OFF-SITE THEATER SHOWS.TRAINING: AT 71 YEARS OLD, THE SAILOR CIRCUS ACADEMY IS AMERICA'S LONGEST RUNNING YOUTH CIRCUS. MORE THAN 1 MILLION SPECTATORS HAVE SEEN ITS BI-ANNUAL PERFORMANCES, RANKED #2 ON TRIP ADVISOR/SARASOTA. CAC'S TRAINING PROGRAMS IMPACT AREA YOUTH ENCOURAGING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR CHARACTER AND LIFE MANAGEMENT SKILLS THROUGH THE CIRCUS ARTS. SAILOR CIRCUS BOASTS OVER 10,000 GRADUATES IN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND 6,000+ HAVE ATTENDED SUMMER CAMP AND CLASSES.OUTREACH: OUR ONE-OF-A-KIND STEAM BASED EDUCATION PROGRAM TAKES LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM TO A NEW LEVEL AND HAS SERVED MORE THAN 12,000 STUDENTS THE LAST 3 YEARS. THROUGH HANDS-ON EDUCATION IN KEY ACADEMIC SUBJECTS LIKE SCIENCE, LANGUAGE ARTS AND THEATER, THIS PROGRAM IMPROVES RETENTION RATES AND TEST OUTCOMES FOR SCORES OF STUDENTS. THE HUMOR THERAPY PROGRAM HAS WORKED WITH OVER 65 LOCAL AGENCIES BRINGING JOYFUL HUMAN SERVICE INTERACTION TO MORE THAN 250,000 PEOPLE IN HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES AND CARE FACILITIES. MEDICAL STUDIES CONSISTENTLY DEMONSTRATE THAT LAUGHTER REDUCES STRESS, EASES ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION, DECREASES PAIN PERCEPTION AND HAS A POSITIVE, LONG LASTING EFFECT ON THE BODY'S IMMUNE SYSTEM, HEART AND BRAIN. THIS SPECIALLY DESIGNED PROGRAM HELPS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PATIENTS, FAMILIES AND STAFF.LEGACY: IN THE LATE 1920'S, JOHN RINGLING MOVED HIS CIRCUS WINTER QUARTERS TO SARASOTA AND THE CIRCUS BECAME AN INTEGRAL PART OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LIFE, GIVING OUR COMMUNITY ITS UNIQUE IDENTITY. THE CAC WAS BORN FROM DECADES OF SARASOTA CIRCUS HISTORY AND WILL CONTINUE TO PRESERVE AND PROMOTE THIS LEGACY. FLORIDA'S SECRETARY OF STATE KURT S. BROWNING RECOGNIZED THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DOLLY JACOBS, CO-FOUNDER OF CAC AT THE FLORIDA HERITAGE AWARDS WHERE DOLLY WAS THE RECIPIENT OF THE PRESTIGIOUS 2012 FLORIDA FOLK HERITAGE AWARD. THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF STATE PRESENTS FOLK HERITAGE AWARDS ANNUALLY TO CITIZENS WHOSE LIFELONG DEVOTION TO FOLK-LIFE HAS ENRICHED THE STATE'S CULTURAL LEGACY.
