CODE OF ALABAMA, SEC 5-17-1, STATES THAT A CREDIT UNION IS A COOPERATIVE SOCIETY INCORPORATED FOR THE TWOFOLD PURPOSE OF PROMOTING THRIFT AMONG ITS MEMBERS AND CREATING A SOURCE OF CREDIT FOR THEM AT LEGITIMATE RATES OF INTEREST. ECO CREDIT UNION, AN ALABAMA STATE CHARTERED CREDIT UNION, PROVIDES THESE SERVICES TO ITS MEMBERS. THE CREDIT UNION'S FIELD OF MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES PRIMARILY EMPLOYEES AND RETIREES OF EIGHT BOARDS OF EDUCATION, FOUR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS, AND ONE PRIVATE PRIMARY SCHOOL WHO WORK IN JEFFERSON OR SHELBY COUNTIES, ALABAMA, AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILIES; UN-REMARRIED WIDOWS OF PERSONS WITHIN THE FIELD OF MEMBERSHIP; EMPLOYEES AND RETIREES OF THE CREDIT UNION; STUDENTS OF THE ABOVE SCHOOL SYSTEMS; ORGANIZATIONS OF SUCH PERSONS; AND ALL SUPPORTING AND ALUMNI ORGANIZATIONS OF THE ABOVE NAMED EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS NOT OTHERWISE PROVIDED CREDIT UNION SERVICE. THE CREDIT UNION'S FIELD OF MEMBERSHIP ALSO INCLUDES PERSONS WHO LIVE, WORK, WORSHIP, OR ATTEND SCHOOL IN CULLMAN, JEFFERSON, BLOUNT, SHELBY, AND WALKER COUNTIES, ALABAMA. AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2021, THE CREDIT UNION HAD MEMBERSHIP AND PROVIDED SERVICES TO APPROXIMATELY 16,084 MEMBERS.
