BFREE'S MISSIONS IS TO CONSERVE THE BIODIVERSITY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF BELIZE. AS THE ONLY FIELD STATTION IN THIS BIOLOGICALLY IMPORTANT AREA, WE SEEK TO ACHIEVE OUR MISSION BY SUCESSFULLY INTERGRATING SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, ENVIRONMNTAL EDUCATION, AND CONSERVATION INITITIVES IN THE MAYA MOUNTAINS OF BELIZE, WHILE ALSO ENHANCING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, PROVIDING ALTERNATIVE LIVELIHOODS, AND UTIMAELY IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIVE FOR BELIZEANS AND VISITORS FROM ABROAD.

US FOR BELIZE FOUNDATION FOR RESEARCH & ENVIROMENTAL EDUCATION, INC. (BFREE) IMPLEMENTS ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS, TEACHERS, CONSERVATION WORKERS, PROTECTED AREA MANAGERS, AND STAFF FOR BOTH BELIZEANS AND PARTICIPANTS FROM ABROAD. IN 2021, BFREE HOSTED NUMEROUS UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE COURSES FROM THE USA AND BELIZE FOR MANY US STUDENTS AND SOME BELIZEANS STUDENTS. BFREE CONDUCTED A YEAR LONG ON-LINE EDUCATION PROGRAM SERIES FOR INTERNATIONAL AND BELIZEAN INSTITUTIONS AND STUDENTS. ABOUT 22% OF THE BFREE'S PROGRAM EXPENSES WENT TOWARD OFFEREING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITES AND ACTIVITIES.


BFREE CONDUCTS AND SUPPORTS BIOLOGICAL RESEARCH ON VARIOUS ORGANISMS, INCLUDING MAMMALS, BIRDS, REPITILES AND AMPHIBIANS, INVERTEBRATES, PLANTS AND OTHER TAXA. IN 2021, BFREE HOSTED SEVERAL SCIENTIFIC RESEARCHERS FROM THE US AND AND BELIZE. RESEARCH RANGED FROM BIRD AND REPTILE STUDIES TO PLANT AND MAMMAL SURVEYS. ABOUT 35% OF BFREE'S PROGRAM EXPENSES WENT TOWARDS FACILITATING AND CONDUCTING RESEARCH ACTIVITIES. BFREE CONTINUED SEVERAL LONG-TERM RESEARCH PROJECTS FOCUSING ON WILDCAT RESEARCH, FRESHWATER TURTLES AND CACAO AGROFORESTRY.


BFREE OPERATES A PRIVATE RESEARCH AND EDUCATION FACILITY ON 1,153 ACRE PRIVATE RESERVE OF TROPICAL RAINFOREST NESTLED IN THE FOOTHILLS OF THE MAYA MOUTAINS IN SOUTHERN BELIZE. ABOUT 45% OF BFREE'S PROGRAM EXPENSES WENT TOWARDS FIELD STATION OPERATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS.
