IS A NONPROFIT CORPORATION THAT USES IMPACT LITIGATION AND ADVOCACY TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF FLORIDA'S POOR AND DISENFRANCHISED RESIDENTS, WHILE FOCUSING ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM, HOMELESSNESS & POVERTY, DISABILITY ACCESS, AND OTHER CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUES. THE ORGANIZATION'S ACTIVITIES ARE PRINCIPALLY FUNDED THROUGH GRANTS, DONATIONS, AND FEES FOR CLIENT SERVICES.

IN FY 2022, WE SETTLED OUR DISABILITY RIGHTS LAWSUIT FOR INCARCERATED PEOPLE, AND CONTINUED TO MONITOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SETTLEMENT, WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HELP BETWEEN 15,000 AND 20,000 PEOPLE. WE FILED AND SUCCESSFULLY SETTLED TWO LAWSUITS CHALLENGING ANTI-PANHANDLING ORDINANCES AS UNCONSTITUTIONAL, WHICH HAS AVERTED THE NEEDLESS ARRESTS OF DOZENS OF HOMELESS PEOPLE. WE PUBLICLY OPPOSED AN ANTI-CAMPING ORDINANCE, WHICH WILL LIKELY HAVE SIMILAR EFFECTS.WE SUCCESSFULLY SUED A COUNTY FOR FAILING TO MAKE ITS PUBLIC MEETINGS OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS, WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO HELP HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. WE ACHIEVED A SUBSTANTIAL SETTLEMENT FOR THE FAMILY OF A MAN WHO WAS MURDERED IN PRISON. WE CONTINUED TO LITIGATE OUR LAWSUITS OVER THE USE OF SOLITARY CONFINEMENT IN THE ADULT AND JUVENILE CORRECTIONS SYSTEMS, WHICH HAD THE POTENTIAL TO AFFECT OVER 10,000 PEOPLE, AND WHICH CAME TO AN END. AND WE CONTINUED OUR GENERAL ADVOCACY WORK BY FIELDING AND RESPONDING TO HUNDREDS OF LETTERS FROM INCARCERATED PEOPLE.
